The E46 M3 was only available as a coupe or convertible. Alpina built the B3 S as a saloon and touring too. To make it work, they sourced the US-spec E36 M3 engine block from a different market entirely - neither the standard M52 nor M54 were suitable. 305 HP, 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, 270 km/h top speed. More comfortable than the M3, more practical, and just as fast. The sensible choice for people who didn't want to be sensible.
