The security authorities in Bahrain launched a widespread arrest campaign at dawn on Saturday, May 9, 2026, targeting a number of Shi'i scholars in various towns and villages, raiding their homes and taking them to unknown destinations. The campaign also included the arrest of two sons of Bahrain's Jurist-Leader, His Eminence Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, Muhammad Taqi and Abdul-Hakeem.
The campaign resulted in the arrest of 34 scholars, bringing the total number of religious figures arrested since the start of the unjust war of aggression on the Islamic Republic of Iran to 46 arrest cases documented thus far, with field reports indicating that raids and arrests are still ongoing.
This escalation follows a pattern of systematic targeting of the Shi'i component in Bahrain, coinciding with ongoing regional military and political tensions.
