There is no use comparing Dhurandhar 1 & Dhurandhar 2. If Dhurandhar 1 was Lakshya, Dhurandhar 2 is Border. The latter’s audience is a superset of the former. Dhurandhar 1 deals with subject matter an ordinary Indian wasn’t aware of. The Lyari Gangwars etc. So it had to invest a lot into those local character arcs. It had to use all its best background tracks, its best editing, art direction to make it presentable to Indian audiences. And it felt like a Pakistani gang war film. The audiences kept watching one terrorist attack after the other with no redemption. To achieve success with such a movie with no resolution, required a lot of craft. Dhurandhar 2, rightfully called the revenge, deals with familiar territory, referencing more recent events, so it didn’t need to spend time in explaining it, hence it could go all slam bang massy. Killing bad guys and invoking patriotic lines is the easy part. The fantastic climax with unexpected reveals was a bonus. This will do very well, in its own right.
