@AdrianCoates8 @SandyofSuffolk Whatever you paid for your parents is between you and them, but your generation on average did not pay more than you will take. The triple lock ensures it will be even fewer than otherwise. Earn your own effin money, mate.

The younger generation haven't thought this one through: "Sell your 3 bed house grandma, buy a studio flat and live off the sale proceeds instead of getting a state pension". Then young entitled grandson won't inherit his grandma's half a million pound house but a grotty fifty grand flat that he can't sell but is liable for the huge monthly management fees. And grandma has spent all the sale proceeds of her big house. It's called karma. 😜🤣

@daleethompson What a deeply evil worldview. You'll be long gone, so why not run up the debt and let infrastructure fail too? Either argue it's positive to lose social cohesion and the culture that built the country you enjoy or don't, but don't weasel out like this.

For the “Canada won’t look like Canada in 100 years” crowd: Who gives any fucks? You’ll be long gone along with your racist friends & maybe, just maybe, your kids & grandkids won’t grow up to be racists either & not care.

@RubyRedhead4 @SandyofSuffolk If you worked all your life you had plenty of time to save for yourself. I was responding to someone who claimed women your age couldn't save for their retirements because they didn't work.

Younger generation to pensioners: "Why didn't you save more into a private pension?" Because most women stayed at home to look after your mums and dads and so didn't earn anything, let alone save anything. And your granddads were struggling to pay the 14% mortgage rates. And any 'pin' money your nans earned from little part time jobs was spent spoiling you on days out at the seaside, birthdays and Christmas and slipping your mum and dad a few quid on the sly when they were a bit hard up. Just so you know.

@seale8 @SandyofSuffolk Don't waste your time arguing with "people" who are old enough they have no risk to their income if someone gets pissy about their opinions. Old people can't really point fingers about anonymity when they've got nothing on the line.

@GarrickKingston @Landeur Cutting the state pension means they pay less. You're for some reason arguing only about benefit and not opportunity cost. They're completely compensated for any 'cuts' by not having to pay for them now, and they have less risk of whether it's there in future.

@GarrickKingston @Landeur Would you rather give me $20 with a promise someone else will give you $20 in four decades, or keep your $20? You've still not explained why the people paying benefit from this arrangement, or are spiting themselves by keeping their own money.

@32a80064 @SandyofSuffolk When I had young children there were no nurseries to put them in so I had to stay at home until they were at school before I could get a part time job to help with the bills. We had 2 2nd hand chairs, a fridge, cooker and a bed when we first married. No TV or phone.

@GarrickKingston @Landeur The justification is that there's no other way for the system to work when the population is not growing. One person (on average) has to pay as much in over their working lifetime as it costs to support one retiree, in a stable population. This is basic.

@32a80064 @Landeur You said: "Like, current generations will have to pay in at least as much as they take out." You have yet to justify that statement. I don't have to mount any argument against it.

@32a80064 @Landeur "The only people better off with the system where people pay for those ahead of them instead of for themselves are current retirees." As I've already told you, that is not how it works at all. You are not paying ahead.

@32a80064 @Landeur No, stop dicking around and answer the question. Why is it good to want to reduce your own eventual pension, just in order to spite the people receiving it now? If it helps you formulate a coherent response, then think of it in terms of sawing off the branch you're sitting on.

@GarrickKingston @Landeur Like, current generations will have to pay in at least as much as they take out. Why would that benefit them? Completely different story than when the number of workers was growing, when pensioners could take out more being supported by a larger number.

@riversorare @investingidiocy It's not moral to think you can make binding promises that entitle you to the labour of people who weren't even born. It's good if pensioners understand they will only be paid out if the deal is fair enough future generations don't revolt. That's how social contracts work.

Its a moral contract. If the state takes it from people just before they retire they will respond without morality. All trust and law will be broken. Obviously old people aren’t that dangerous, but I would expect to see an explosion in fraud and tax evasion and unfortunate bankruptcies. It will be everyone for themselves.

1/ Quickie on the UK triple lock debate: firstly there is no legal contract, just a social one. The level of your contributions is set by the govt, and the benefit you receive is set seperately. The govt. can change that benefit as they wish. There is no seperate pot of money...

@32a80064 @Landeur Right, now you're bitching about National Insurance contributions. 😵‍💫 If you object to paying NI, then contact HMRC. Opt out of NI. Pay into your own private pension instead. Stop wasting time with your resentful whining about OAPs, and start taking charge of your own life. 👍
