Before February 28, the Middle East was certainly not a peaceful paradise, but it stood—at least—on the edge of the storm without fully falling into it. The Strait of Hormuz remained open, and global trade continued to flow through it despite persistent political tensions. Meanwhile, the deepest wound in the region continued to bleed in the Gaza Strip following the Gaza War of 2023–2026. There, the humanitarian tragedy was intensifying, and with it the feelings of anger and frustration were accumulating across the entire region. During that period, a ceasefire was announced under the auspices of Donald Trump. Yet the reality on the ground told a different story: repeated violations, intermittent escalations, and ongoing tensions on multiple fronts—from Gaza to the Lebanese border, where Hezbollah stood in constant confrontation with Israel. Even so, the region remained within the framework of a contained conflict that had not yet expanded into a full regional war. However, the scene changed as the direct confrontation between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other began to widen. Suddenly, maritime corridors transformed from pathways of global commerce into instruments of strategic pressure. Discussions began to intensify about the possibility of closing the Strait of Hormuz, followed by warnings that tensions could extend to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait—another vital artery for global trade. The most dangerous aspect of this rhetoric is not merely the potential disruption of global navigation, but the political message embedded within it: the expansion of the conflict’s scope so that it no longer remains confined to its immediate actors, but instead draws in the countries of the region and their critical waterways. At this point, a pressing question emerges: is the goal truly to protect stability, or to push the region toward alignment in a larger war? The Middle East was not stable before February, but the facts suggest that maritime routes were not an open battlefield, nor were the states of the region direct targets of the confrontation. Today, however, the cycle of escalation threatens to transform chronic tension into a wider conflict—one whose consequences may stretch from the Gulf to the Red Sea, affecting not only the global economy but also the security of entire societies. Amid this unfolding reality, one lesson becomes unmistakably clear: when wars expand, they rarely remain confined to the borders of those who ignite them. قبل الثامن والعشرين من فبراير، لم يكن الشرق الأوسط جنةً هادئة، لكنه كان على الأقل يقف عند حافة العاصفة دون أن يسقط فيها. كان مضيق هرمز مفتوحاً، وكانت طرق التجارة تمر عبره رغم التوترات السياسية، بينما ظل الجرح الحقيقي ينزف في قطاع غزة بعد اندلاع حرب غزة 2023–2026. هناك كانت المأساة الإنسانية تتفاقم، ومعها تتراكم مشاعر الغضب والاحتقان في المنطقة كلها. في تلك الفترة، أُعلن عن وقف لإطلاق النار برعاية دونالد ترامب، لكن الوقائع على الأرض كانت مختلفة؛ خروقات متكررة، وتصعيد متقطع، وتوتر مستمر على أكثر من جبهة، من غزة إلى الحدود اللبنانية حيث يقف حزب الله في مواجهة دائمة مع إسرائيل. ورغم كل ذلك، بقيت المنطقة ضمن إطار الصراع المحدود الذي لم يصل إلى مواجهة إقليمية شاملة. غير أن المشهد تغيّر مع اتساع المواجهة المباشرة بين الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل من جهة وإيران من جهة أخرى. فجأة تحولت الممرات البحرية من طرق للتجارة إلى أوراق ضغط في لعبة القوة. بدأ الحديث يتصاعد عن احتمال إغلاق مضيق هرمز، ثم عن إمكانية امتداد التوتر إلى مضيق باب المندب، وهو شريان حيوي آخر للتجارة العالمية. إن أخطر ما في هذا الخطاب ليس فقط احتمال تعطّل الملاحة العالمية، بل الرسالة السياسية التي يحمله: توسيع دائرة الصراع بحيث لا يبقى محصوراً بين أطرافه المباشرين، بل يمتد ليشمل دول المنطقة وممراتها الحيوية. وهنا يصبح السؤال أكثر إلحاحاً: هل الهدف حماية الاستقرار، أم دفع المنطقة إلى الاصطفاف في حرب أكبر؟ إن الشرق الأوسط لم يكن مستقراً قبل فبراير، لكن الوقائع تشير إلى أن الممرات البحرية لم تكن ساحة مواجهة مفتوحة، ولم تكن دول المنطقة هدفاً مباشراً للصراع. أما اليوم، فإن التصعيد المتبادل يهدد بتحويل التوتر المزمن إلى مواجهة واسعة قد تمتد آثارها من الخليج إلى البحر الأحمر، ومن الاقتصاد العالمي إلى أمن الشعوب. وسط هذا المشهد، يبقى الدرس الأوضح أن الحروب عندما تتسع لا تبقى محصورة في حدود من أشعلها، بل تمتد كدوائر في الماء، تبتلع معها الاستقرار والاقتصاد وحتى آمال الناس في حياة أكثر هدوأ وعدلآ #الشرق_الاوسط #التصعيد_العسكري #MiddleEastConflict #Iran #IsraelIran #StraitOfHormuz #RedSea #BabElMandeb #Geopolitics #Gaza #InternationalRelations #GlobalSecurity

Welcome to a noble guest: if we honor it, it honors us; if we draw near to it, God draws near to us.
