What dya think of this? Im teaching next week- medieval practices of belief in Ireland featuring sheela-na-gigs @3DSheela Saw this sheelanagig.org/raglan-carving/ vulva-phallus carving from Raglan, Wales. Is it medieval? Are there similar pilgrim badges (I know the usual ones)?

@karrycrow I've not seen this shape in pilgrim badges. To me they are generally more wounds of Christ in form. It a difficult stone to interpret. My memory of this stone is there was little context with the find? Could it have been a film/tv prop? Or was there a castle or church?

@karrycrow I'm not sure about this. The vulva seems very enhanced. Not very common on Medieval sheelas that show them. You do see this form in replicas (see the movie Men) a modern interpretation.

@cmcloughlin1 We have heard there is a new Sheela, and have logged back into Twitter say thanks now we need to update our maps. Honestly, this is a major find. There is a major gap in the record in the SE. A missing/possible is all we have as well as two debunked

@thewildgees Not a Sheela. It's an early christian cross, there is a 'spaceman' on the back, or a figure with a halo, but I prefer the latter.

Visited this stern looking Sheela na Gig in Stepaside today. Unusual location - on a free-standing stone, like a grave marker, in an eerie glade beside a golf course. Gorgeous 😍

there is still time to get your votes for Roscommon in. The home of 7 sheela-na-gigs, Roscommon, Rindoon and Ballintober & Athlone, Castles (the border is in the river), an iron age idol, myths, queens and kings. It's irelands real hidden heartland
