Calabar Court Sends Two Fraudsters to Jail The Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday  May 20, 2026 secured the conviction and sentence of two internet fraudsters  before Justice Rosemary Oghoghorie of the Federal High Court sitting in Calabar Cross River State. They pleaded 'guilty' to  two- count separate charges preferred against them by the Commission. One of the charges read: 'That you, IKE EUSTA-PRINCE EZIOMUME "M" sometime between 2024 and 2026 within the jurisdiction of this Honorable court did take possession and control of $200 (Two Hundred United States Dollars) and €260 (Two Hundred and Sixty Euros) intentionally knowing that the money formed part of the proceeds of an unlawful act to wit; obtaining money by false pretence and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section  18(2)(d) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act and punishable under the Section 18(3) of the same Act'. Another charge reads: 'That you, VICTOR PIUS NNAEGBO "M" sometime between 2024 and 2026 within the jurisdiction of this Honorable court did take possession and control of €530 (Five Hundred and Thirty Euros) intentionally knowing that the money formed part of the proceeds of an unlawful act to wit: obtaining money by false pretence and thereby committed an offence  contrary to Section 18(2)(d) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act and punishable under the Section 18(3) of the same Act'. In view of their guilty pleas, prosecution counsel  Khamis Mahmud ,  reviewed the facts of the case and prayed the court to convict and sentence them in accordance with the provisions of the law.  Defence counsel,  Douglas Besong did not object but prayed the court to be lenient in sentencing the defendants. After listening to both counsel, Justice Oghoghorie convicted and sentenced Ike Eusta-Prince Eziomume to two years jail term with an option of a fine of N500, 000.00 ( Five Hundred Thousand Naira) and to restitute $200 (Two Hundred USD), and €260  (Two Hundred and Sixty Euros) to his victims. While Victor Pius  Nnaegbo got two years jail term with a N1,000,000.00 (One Million  Naira) fine option and to restitute the sum of €530 (Five Hundred  and Thirty Euros) to his victim. They both forfeited the gadgets used in committing the said crimes. The convicts were arrested on May 5 and 12, 2026, at  Umuahia and Aba Areas of Abia State. They were subsequently charged to court and convicted.

EFCC Sets the Record Straight on UUTH Incident Following the impassioned reaction of Nigerians to a recent incident at the Uyo University Teaching Hospital, UUTH, involving operatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Commission and some staff of the hospital, the Commission is constrained to issue further clarification concerning the episode. The presence of the Commission’s Operatives in the facility on Tuesday, May 12th, 2026 was purely administrative, to facilitate the authentication of a document, rather than a tactical operation to effect arrest. Contrary to the information making the rounds, no arrests were made and the staff of the hospital that followed our operatives to the Zonal Command were not detained. The Commission is outraged by the allegations of brutalisation of staff of the hospital. Even though we have not seen any physical evidence of such brutality in terms of bodily harm or injury to anyone, including to the staff members who addressed the media on this issue, the Commission as a responsible organisation, has ordered an investigation into the incident. While awaiting the outcome of this inquiry, any staff of the Commission found to have deviated from the Standard Operating Procedure of the Agency, will not be spared. The Commission acknowledges stakeholders who have shown concern in the amicable resolution of the issue and ,once again, reassures the public, including medical staff of the UUTH, that the May 12th incident was an aberration and should not be allowed to be exploited by some fifth columnists to undermine the fight against corruption in Nigeria. The EFCC recognizes the rights of every Nigerian and will continue to pursue its mandate without distraction or encroachment on the inalienable right of anyone.

BREAKING: The Nigerian Army @HQNigerianArmy has effectively confirmed its involvement in the abduction of @Justice_Crack after his vehicle was traced directly to their premises at the CIC. In an apparent attempt to deflect responsibility, they subsequently enlisted the support of the lawless Department of State Services @OfficialDSSNG to take custody of him. However, that maneuver comes too late, the facts are already established. @Justice_Crack must be released immediately.

CLARIFICATION ON THE ARREST OF JUSTICE MARK CHIDIEBERE (JUSTICE CRACK) The attention of the Nigerian Army was drawn to the complaint made by some soldiers regarding their feeding and other matters relating to their welfare as posted on social media by a blogger/social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere (Justice Crack). While the matter is being investigated for breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy and an attempt to misinform the public, preliminary report reveals that the soldiers discussed wide range of issues with Justice Chidiebere who seemed to be inciting soldiers to create discontent within the system. An example was a chat bothering on subversion which Chidiebere had with the soldiers. It is important to state that a situation where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel towards acts of subversion has far-reaching implications on discipline and national security. Hence, Justice Chidiebere was picked by the Nigerian Army alongside the soldiers for investigation. While the soldiers remain in own custody, Chidiebere has been handed over to the relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution. The Nigerian Army remains committed to the rule of law and will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served. We will continue to act within the ambits of the law in safeguarding our sovereignty. APPOLONIA ANELE Colonel Acting Director Army Public Relations 2 May 2026

Yesterday, I spent Easter Sunday with our dear President, Bola Tinubu, and my bestie Aliko Dangote. We discussed the economy and how Nigerians can benefit from the reforms. On a day of resurrection and renewal, Mr President was still working. That kind of commitment gives you hope for Nigeria 🇳🇬 … F.Ote💲

My dear fellow Nigerians, Today, as I clock another year in the journey of life, I'm filled with joy and gratitude for the opportunity given me to serve this great nation. I want to take this moment to thank Nigerians for their messages, show of love and prayers on the occasion of my 74th birthday. I thank all our citizens for their patriotism, solidarity and support for our administration. To those who have taken space in newspapers or paid for air time on radio and television to wish me well, I thank you immensely. I must thank my wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, for her kind and loving words. I also thank Vice President Kashim Shettima for all he said about me. Consistent with my tradition over the years to mark my birthday in line with the mood of the nation each year, I resolved to also observe this year's birthday low key. As I mark this special day, I am reminded of the challenges we've faced since we initiated our reforms. I'm glad that our sacrifices have not been in vain as we can see some glittering light at the end of the tunnel, despite the temporary setback caused by ongoing Middle East crisis. The credit for the positive outcomes we have achieved does not belong solely to me, our Renewed Hope team and to our government. We achieved the gains together. As we march towards the third anniversary of our administration, it is my deepest conviction that we shall succeed in building a brighter future for our citizens and future generations. We are determined to confront some of the challenges we face today, and with your continued support, we shall overcome. Let us continue to work together to build a stronger, prosperous and more resilient nation that will make Nigeria the pride of Africa. Thank you all, and happy 74th birthday to me! Bola Ahmed Tinubu President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
