@SarahAnnEgan @tntsports Listen on YouTube to the streams with black box covering center image, sometimes they are clear. Will probably go VPN at some point and watch on Sporza or LEquipe.

HELP! Where’s everyone watching their cycling these days? I used to watch all my pro cycling on GCN, then Discovery+. Since this whole viewing rights mess, I’ve switched to Now TV—but the downside is you have to watch live, no catch-up. (Oh and also @tntsports mostly give away the result on their thumbnail 🤬)

@andykirkland71 If it makes you feel good and striving for more it's valid. My placebo may be different to yours but both can be equally effective. Well done!

@faustocoppi60 Back when I was racing in France in the 80s we had to change our chainrings going into Belgium to race as they had a limit for amateur Seniors of 52/13. So it's not a crazy idea. But the easy way of course is a single make tyre rule with designed in high rolling resistance.

One year after UCI scrapped the 52/14 gear restrictions for juniors, WVA wants a gear limit for the pros as safety measure. 🤔 Unlikely to happen but it definitely should be considered by UCI and CPA, imo. This will definitely slow down the peloton on the false flats/easy descents where imo the speeds now reached frightening level for a full peloton, the riders being so close to one another. But probably the riders will start to spin like washing machine instead and still go fast...😅 What would be the maximum gear allowed by the way, 55/10?
Tratnikismo@Tratnikstan

Wout van Aert on safety: "Limiting the number of gears would make the sport a lot safer, in my opinion. Other riders don't think so. Yet I am convinced: if you are on that descent with a gear limit, no one can move up." cyclinguptodate.com/cycling/wout-v…

1 hour Strava for every minute I was on Spotify. If I only read the bottom line, training more hours than 75% of Strava users and doing more days than 63%, it doesn't look too bad. 😔

@ConorTMcGrane @SarahAnnEgan Violent Night is current Number 1 taking over from the obvious Die Hard. Home alone meets Guardians of the Galaxy. And any movie with Slade over the credits has to be a winner.

Euro Cross: This is the top 10 from the U23 Women's race in Lisbon 5 years ago. Two of them (Barker and Ruiz) are entered for the senior race in Antalya; some haven't raced since 2021.

This is not good news for cycling in the UK. Firstly, I'd like to say that there are a lot of passionate cycling fans working at WBD, in front of and behind the scenes. The company is automatically 'disliked' by a cohort of the general public because it's a huge international conglomerate, but Eurosport have been showcasing cycling since 1991. They have, and continue to do a hell of a lot for our sport. On the flip side, exclusivity on the biggest race in the world, the ONLY race where non-cycling fans might tune is, is very worrying. It's a significant barrier to entry into what is already a relatively niche sport in the UK. ITV not only do a fantastic job themselves of broadcasting the race, live and with easily accessible highlights, they provide a gateway to WBD. The fans they 'convert' each July are more likely to subscribe to Discovery+/Max/Eurosport once they've realised how amazing our sport is. They must have made lifelong cycling fans of millions of people over the last few decades (including me). Anyway, I really feel for Ned, Dave, Pete, Matt, Daniel, Gary and all the others behind the ITV production - thank you for all you've done for the sport.

@BenjiNaesen They are right. Indeed if Skujins has been the rider he could have been DSQed on the spot. The small federation syndrome is very real as anyone who has worked in any sport at international level will tell you. Should spectator safety be number 1? Not all are there for a race.

Would the Latvian Cycling Federation have contested Mathieu van der Poel's non-DSQ if Skujins wasn't 4th? No. But that doesn't matter. They're right. UCI Commissaire didn't enforce the rules, unlike in Gent-Wevelgem when Reusser was DSQed for the same action. #Zurich2024

@faustocoppi60 Women's pro cycling can be much more like athletics than men's pro cycling. Yes there are some teams that work well together, some really good ones And tbf not all men's teams the best either, but really it's an individual sport.

In case of sprint, Demi Vollering (and Netherlands) has a big chance to finish without a medal here. Ruby, Kopecky and Dygert are clearly faster. #Zurich2024

@UCI_cycling has a live feed going of women's race with 1800 people watching the final lap. Not available in Ireland though. Be interesting to know what the goal is in providing a service to so few globally. Obviously sales in Ireland have reached that goal on Eurosport maybe.

Can't find a legal or an illegal, greyed out center image, stream of the women's road race and only a single Spanish live commentary. Interesting to see what the men's race looks like tomorrow.

@faustocoppi60 Or go back in time to pre U23 days when we had a pro and amateur worlds. Right now there is nothing for riders 24 and up who have not turned pro or are still developing towards it. If there was an option for worlds then maybe NGB support would still be available to them and races

It's official. From next year, the professional riders won't be allowed to take part in Men U23 World Champs! I think this is a first step to the complete extinction of the U23 category at World Champs. It will happen in less than a decade imo. When the youngsters are so strong and become pro so early, the U23 category doesn't make sense anymore. It's part of cycling evolution, good or bad. Anyway, UCI MUST change the name from "U23 Men" to "U23 non-pro Men".
