As you watch Aaron Rai in the PGA Championship, you might notice he uses iron covers for his clubs and wears two gloves — two habits often viewed as golf faux pas. But both are actually inspiring. Rai grew up in a working-class family in England, where his father sacrificed heavily to support his golf career. When Aaron got an expensive set of irons as a kid, his dad would clean every groove with a pin and baby oil after practice because the clubs meant that much to them. The iron covers became a reminder to appreciate what you have. And the two gloves? Rai started wearing them as a kid during cold-weather golf in England and eventually became so comfortable with the feel that he never stopped. Not gimmicks. Just gratitude… and comfort.

From a WDIV Tigers broadcast on 5/16/1987, a classic interview with the Tigers Manager, Sparky Anderson. After an 11-19 start to the season, the team and Sparky were feeling the heat from the media and the fans. Despite the struggles, Sparky felt extremely confident in his club. "I love to get them firing at me. We're going bad right now, so and see, now all guns will be firing. But I got news for them. I can accept all the firing, but I promise this will be the first time when the season comes to an end, if this club does what I think it will do, I'm gonna fire back." The Tigers would end up winning the East Division with 98 wins and play in the 1987 ALCS. A good reminder as this 2026 team fights through a tough start to the season.

This day, 2004: After blowing a 2-0 series lead and dropping a heartbreaker game 5 in overtime to fall into a 3-2 hole, the Pistons brought their defense to New Jersey, walked the Nets down and dragged them back to Detroit for a game 7:

@NS_242424 Kinda the point tho, LeVert Jenkins and Harris are their best options other than Cade. Not much the coach can do there.

@3pointpod I agree that he has been. He was also great for Cleveland’s turnaround. But come playoff time, he hasn’t made adjustments on the fly very well. Can’t blow a 9 pt lead with 2.5 mins left because you can’t figure out they’re doubling Cade and nobody else to get the ball to.

I’ve already seen enough out of these playoffs to know why the Cavs fired him. He cannot make adjustments in the playoffs and his rotations are terrible. Duren has been terrible almost every game of the playoffs-put his ass on the bench.

JB: “They started doubling and getting the ball out of Cade’s hands. We’ll find ways to fix it. We’ll be better.” On the late no-call against Ausar: “He fouled Ausar. It’s clear. He trips him when he’s going for a loose ball. End of game situation, that’s tough.”
