I had blood clots in my calf and I went on an exercise machine that you strap to a board and it flips you upside down and that sent some of the clots to my lung and that caused the “flu”

One thing I do now is let people know how common blood clots/PEs are and to advocate for your own health. I was told that many doctors don’t check for PEs and unfortunately people die from that.

My boss at the time made me leave work early and drive to the ER because I looked bad. They did a CT scan, found the PEs and off to the critical care unit I went. I was 39.

For the first time in forever, I actually feel alive. I love my life again and I finally feel like me again. For over a decade, I was completely trapped in a vicious cycle. Hopeless. Depressed. I had given up on myself. Heroin and crack cocaine destroyed everything.. I ended up on the streets, becoming the exact person I always swore I’d never be. I knew I was going to die soon, just like so many of my friends did. Especially once I switched from shooting heroin to fentanyl.. It got so bad. I overdosed countless times.. it became routine. I’d wake up to Narcan and keep going. Deep down I knew my luck was running out. But somehow… I survived. And I proved to myself that life really is worth fighting for.. that real happiness is possible. Two years ago, I never would’ve believed I’d be here. I’m so incredibly grateful to my doctor, my therapists, and especially my parents. Without them, I wouldn’t be here today. I owe them everything. Thank God for giving me a second chance.
