@mrsimonraymonde Sorry, Simon. I've only just seen this. The pix I took on that Spring '84 UK tour with Felt (all @ s/checks - 'so so' to 'interesting') got mentioned on Fb by some Bedford peeps so hopefully I’ll dig out the negs at the w/end and try and work out when and where each was taken.

17th November 1984 a special show for our friend Declan at Bedford Boys Club / Elizabeth being awesome and me on the bass and Peter Van Der Velde pitchside - with the impossible task of looking after the monitors 😂

Its been a joy to share Nerve Up with you; this album will always be so special to me. Thankyou for listening, and thanks to @Tim_Burgess for having me. I can’t wait to make another stark & spiky guitar record. Julie XXX

The 'thwack!' sound at 1:56 was achieved by dropping a chunk of breezeblock onto a sheet of metal in a long, cold corridor of the mill. Heavy tools were also dropped onto the metal to create a terrible metallic splintering sounds that add (more) aggression to the sound.

@LoneLadyHQ A beauty! Reminiscent of Fiat Lux's Feels Like Winter Again.

‘Reversing it back into winter / turned into a black sculpture’ I like the shimmery chill sadness of Marble. The lyrics are quite oblique, as a lot of my lyrics are. Michael Stipe is partly to blame for that. As a teen I was transfixed by his magical, cryptic words. #Marble

Excerpt from my diary of the sessions: 'The room is permeated with a heavy dampness; the canal feels very close, hanging with us like fog. The phones are off, we have barricaded ourselves in: it’s just Guy and me. All we can do is begin.’

Over to Bill! ‘when i first heard the songs i thought that they sounded fantastic..they had a cool kind of cassette compression & midrange that i couldn't imagine losing..but the stereo image was also compressed...we could use those tracks and augment them with some "space"..
