Eventually, Johnny would receive a kiss when he brought his gloves back, a wide smile on both of their faces as Ghost slipped the gloves back on and then interlaced their fingers.

From then on, anytime Ghost found a hole in his gloves, he’d silently bring them to Soap with a chocolate bar, a coffee, or any other goodie in exchange for Johnny fixing his gloves for him.

#GhostSoap Soap who learns to sew after Ghost shows him a bin of destroyed gloves. There must have been fifteen pairs at least, tattered, torn, or peeling away in the box. Soap’s mouth was agape as Simon flipped through them, pointing out where the gloves lost their lives.

Eventually, with the help of Johnny, Ghost reached out to others. Let himself be congratulated with a fist bump, or a well-meaning punch without panicking. Because of Johnny, Ghost felt like a person.

Simon cried the first time they held each other. Feeling the entirety of Johnny’s presence was overwhelming in a way Ghost hadn’t known how to handle. His entire being sang to him, made him feel whole.

He spent his nights in bed, tracing the bits of his arms that had touched Johnny. Just waiting for the next time they would meet, and Simon could feel alive again.

Moments spent that Ghost could think of nothing else but the body pressed in some small way against his own. It meant more to Ghost than he would ever admit to even himself. Made him feel like a person for the first time he could remember.

Legs pressed against his during helicopter rides, even falling asleep against each other. Mess hall lunches spent across from each other, feet intertwined. Breaks on the couch in the rec room, shoulder to shoulder as they pass popcorn in front of a tv.

After that first time, Simon found himself going out of his way to find excuses to touch Johnny.

In the end, Ghost hand found itself on Johnny’s shoulder for a total of two seconds, but the feeling of warmth on his palm relaxed him for the rest of the day.

The first time Ghost reached out to Soap, it was days in the making. Ghost knew he had to do it early in the morning, so he still had plausible deniability about him still being half asleep. Past that, he was just working himself up to the moment.

But after Las Almas, when they regrouped in the church and Johnny slung an arm over his shoulder, he couldn’t help but lean into it a bit.
