@tamolam @TristinHopper Leave it to a boomer to think wanting a free market in housing (what the boomers had) is like wanting to step on younger people's back because you didn't save for retirement. No one wants to be feudal lords like the boomers, they want a world where everyone can own.

@TristinHopper By your argument they are the only ones keeping you from being just like them. You want what they have. You can't have what they have because of the way they vote. Therefore they are greedy and bad...but you are what? Righteous and wise?

@457732277a @Zaxeter1 @DBZYuYuYasha @xwanyex We have already seen what happens when the majority do not believe in human rights and representation for all. That is why we no longer move towards that error, despite a very loud and vocal minority.

@457732277a @Zaxeter1 @DBZYuYuYasha @xwanyex Who cares? If you do not observe Easter, you can still have Easter off in Norway, in addition to any other religious observance you want for personal time. I do not have to observe those days if I do not want to. It does not concern me. You are not pointing out a real issue here.

@prinsessmarthe @Zaxeter1 @DBZYuYuYasha @xwanyex Minorities get a 'vote' on whether they believe a country's policy, law, and practices are acceptable to them when they choose to come. Otherwise, it's not a justifiable incursion on democratically-set policy.

@prinsessmarthe @Zaxeter1 @DBZYuYuYasha @xwanyex This is not equally good to it being the days everyone is off. You know that. In any case, it's not a right in an absolute sense to have holidays respected (which is why people can't make up their own). It's a special collective privilege to avoid conflict and appease minorities.

@457732277a @Zaxeter1 @DBZYuYuYasha @xwanyex In Norway, we provide religious work observation days for any faith, and we provide subsidies for all religions. You can treat people equitably. You simply choose not to because of your prejudice.

@457732277a @Zaxeter1 @DBZYuYuYasha @xwanyex The majority of the minorities were always around because of colonisation and enslavement. Their ancestors were denied equal and fair treatment. You are simply worried that they will do that to you when you become a minority. You should be. But it does not have to be that way.

@prinsessmarthe @Zaxeter1 @DBZYuYuYasha @xwanyex Only if you redefine "fairness" to mean recognition of group preferences that are not democratically decided. There's no right for say your religions holidays to be the national ones but of course anyone would prefer it. It's not just about avoiding mistreatment, but power.

@457732277a @Zaxeter1 @DBZYuYuYasha @xwanyex The US has a history of treating minorities unfairly. There is no need to pretend. If your system is fair, equitable and guarantees rights for all, there is nothing wrong with being in the minority.

@Al_Intellius @PPC4Liberty We will have 450k immigrants this year. The peak year of the baby boom there were around 450k babies born. You can't outbreed the whole world if politicians want to push demographic change.

@PPC4Liberty Indeed. They are all ageing in population and not replacing fast enough. I think if white people want to avoid becoming the minority there needs to be a major shift in mentality in terms of having lots of kids and holding on to generational property.

I just want my grandchild to experience being surrounded by their own people and culture, just as my grandparents did, and their parents and their grandparents etc… Why does that make me Evil? I don’t think it does…

@Tablesalt13 Does he think young Canadians don't understand people his age have lived good--far better than their own parents--through the exact same circumstances? I think any sacrifice is going to have to come from them.

@Scruffyboy54 @Graff2023 @nationalpost Portraying that as 40% attendance is ragebait yes. If it was shocking that a majority of students miss 10%+ of classes that would have been the headline.

@Graff2023 @nationalpost Saw a report recently that said post Covid attendance in high school was on the 40% range. Not surprised as have seen that play out in smart kids I know. It's too easy to say I can pick that up on line. Covid response destroyed society in ways we haven't yet fully comprehended.

@Graff2023 @nationalpost If it's all about what the public gets back, no healthcare subsidies to old past productive life. Bad ROI.

The $500,000 exit tax was absurd, but there is a valid point underlying this idea - no free ride to people who leave but benefitted from subsidies. We have the most educated population in the world - because we want our kids to get university degrees instead of being plumbers, but also because our high levels of immigration and the points system means most PR immigrants have lots of schooling too. So, cut immigration or change who we let in to mean less competition for the high paying jobs where there is no skills shortage. This is not enough - but then we can add in this other part. Charge students the FULL cost of tuition - or most of it to be competitive with US schools. No grants, but loans for tuition and living expenses. The policy would then be to forgive loans or charge no interest based on what happens after students leave school. First, be more generous to people who try university, but do not finish first year. We want smart kids to try university, but if they do poorly or hate it, then we fill offer other training. If someone graduates and leaves Canada, they have to pay back the loans - no breaks. The only exceptions would be to delay repayment if someone is taking a post-graduate degree outside or Canada, or is doing volunteer work approved by the government. So, if someone moves to the US to take a better paying job than they can get here, they pay back the loan in full, unless they come back. For those who stay, they get some relief, dependent on income or what they are doing. Go in the military, you get a big break. Unemployed, we delay repayment. Have a low wage job? Then no interest and we forgive some of the loan. Maybe even if you have minor children we forgive even more, so people do not delay having kids. Now, if you stay and earn a ton of money, you pay it all back, but we offer a low interest rate - the more you earn though, the less benefit - but interest on student loans would be tax deductible. If you leave Canada and do not repay your loans, then no passport, no voting, and don't ever set foot here or you will be in legal trouble. The idea is essentially: If you leave Canada and get a great job somewhere else, fine, but you will have to repay the full cost of your degree. If you quit or you education means you stay but earn little, you will have little burden and much of the cost will be forgiven. If you stay and do well, you pay back most of the cost of your education but get some breaks, depending.

@acoyne Oh no, god forbid we understand the implications of political choices. That would be blaming, as long as there's a person involved somewhere.
