@VL2102 not quite the same, but it's interesting how one of the things that was quietly discarded from the Enlightenment was a faith that borderline mathematical rationality could solve morality and politics my kooky interpretation is that we no longer live in the modern era

If you came to Earth in 1912, you'd see the very normal conservativeish president Taft talking about how We Should abolish war. Appeals to humanity and the destiny of the planet seem to be more common in the political rhetoric of the mid-20th century than they are today.

@VL2102 *side note, but JP and Eng both have alphabets that don't quite fit. JP borrows the monosyllabic chinese alphabet, but has so few sounds it has to stretch out words to distinguish them (and there are still so many homophones). English has ~twice as many sounds as letters

@VL2102 ...oddly rigid sentence structure that works by "tacking on" descriptive phrases. (like, "The old woman holding a red bag crossed the street" would be said by tacking on phrases to "woman" to "woman street cross")
