People are paying for the novelty of ownership with certain collectibles. In this case, it is the pride of ownership of a New York Knicks item, not a Diawara item. The clout that comes with owning the Debut jersey that gets discussed on social media. Was the $5,376 spent worth the excitement of seeing Rovell tweet it out to 1.8 Million people? @4lefko can answer. I think, yes.

I have intentionally sat out storytelling around certain auctions. It may be a coincidence, but sometimes the results are horrific when that happens. Auction houses have done two things: 1: Asked me to promote their items. 2: Have attempted to muzzle me. Bidders: 1: Have asked me to not tweet about auctions they want to win. 2: Have told me they won items really cheap because I did not tweet about the item. Consignors: 1: Have messaged me to promote their items. I run this account to enhance, educate and grow the community. If I like an item, I’ll post it. I don’t post all of the items I think are cool. But there is a clear correlation to social media storytelling and values and that remains one of the biggest upsides for our space. Even an account with 1,800 followers can have a legitimate impact on value because of recognized curation.
