I teach Cuban foreign policy in Africa. And my students are always surprised when I tell them that Cuba was the only country to defeat Apartheid South Africa militarily. Not once but twice (1975 & 1988), protecting Angola from occupation from Apartheid SA and playing big role in independence of Namibia.
Cuba’s crucial role in the defeat of the Apartheid regime, at a time when it was supported by the US and its allies, is not a history Europeans and global elites are told or taught. Celebrate Mandela, sure, but don’t ask any questions…
