Abbotsford teen crashes his stepmoms car 😳 A teenage driver speeds down the side of Highway #1 in heavy traffic. Two teenager passengers are also in the car and urge the driver to slow down. The car leaves the highway and crashes into a parked dump truck. The three occupants get out of the car, with the driver urging them to "run," but the passengers ask "run where?" and they ultimately stop and wait for police. An Abbotsford teen is serving a driver's licence suspension after being found guilty of a long list of driving offences, and BC Highway Patrol is releasing video footage to show the risks of speeding and poor driving decisions. Cell phone video that was voluntarily given to police shows how the youth chose to put his friends and himself at risk instead of stopping and face a simple speeding violation.

B.C. is losing people faster than anywhere else in Canada 🧳 The province dropped 0.7 percent last year, losing more than 41,000 residents. That’s roughly the size of Mission. It’s tied with Ontario for the biggest decline in the country. The main reason is a sharp fall in non-permanent residents like international students and workers. More deaths than births also played a part. This comes after years of record growth.

Vancouver International Airport has been voted Best Airport in North America for a record-breaking 15th time 🏆✈️ It also jumped all the way to 10th best airport in the entire world. Over 26.9 million passengers went through last year, smashing the old record. The attached Fairmont hotel ranked 3rd best airport hotel on the planet too.

Canada is deporting more extortion criminals ✈️ The Canada Border Services Agency has now removed 35 people from the country as part of extortion investigations. They have opened 372 cases total and issued 70 removal orders. Two men were recently sent back: one entered on a study permit in 2022 and was tied to a criminal group involved in extortion, arson, drugs and guns. The other came as a temporary resident in 2016. The crackdown is hitting organized crime groups targeting the South Asian community in B.C. Vancouver is dropping lifeguards from several beaches this summer 🏊 🏖️ They’re going from 10 staffed beaches down to only 5. The beaches losing lifeguards are Spanish West, Spanish East, Sunset, Third Beach and Trout Lake. Lifeguards will stay at Locarno, Jericho, Kits, English Bay and Second Beach. The city says they’re focusing on the busiest spots because of budget issues.

Big RCMP bust in Kelowna and Penticton 👀 Officers seized 29 kg of methamphetamine, 18 kg of cocaine, 4 kg of fentanyl, 8,500 Xanax pills, 50.5 litres of suspected GHB, $240,000 in cash, 5 cartons of unstamped tobacco, a stolen rifle and a prohibited handgun. Four people were arrested during the raids but have since been released pending further investigation. Police say this is a major disruption to an organized crime group trafficking drugs in the area.

Canada just signed a $200 million deal for a new spaceport in Nova Scotia 👀 The 10-year agreement aims to give Canada its own launch site so Canada doesn’t have to rely on SpaceX and other foreign rockets to get satellites into orbit. The deal will support building independent launch capability on Canadian soil for satellites and defence needs. It will still take years before it’s fully running.
