@ScottMGreer Remember when he suggested people struggling to afford expensive modern cars should buy an old Model T as a daily driver and maintain it themselves?

@newstart_2024 I have amazing impulse control. To be fair I had a kind hearted pensioner that treated me like his own. Then he died at 85.

Erica Komisar said something that feels both obvious and uncomfortable in today’s world. She pointed out that when fathers are absent in early childhood, little boys often become more aggressive. According to her, mothers and fathers regulate aggression differently — fathers tend to do it more effectively — and this difference is rooted in biology and hormones, not just socialization. She stressed that fathers and mothers are of equal value, but they serve different functions for children. We can teach fathers to be more nurturing and mothers to be firmer, but first we have to admit those natural differences exist. It’s a straightforward take on parental roles that challenges the idea that mothers and fathers are completely interchangeable. What do you think — do you see real biological differences in how mothers and fathers influence their kids, or do you believe those roles are mostly shaped by culture?
