I’ve recently discovered a section of Toronto & Canadian twitter that is pro-fare dodging. Not the most intellectually rigorous crowd but perhaps surprisingly large.
Not without flaws, but one way to assess the virtue of an action or belief, e.g., fare evasion, is to ask what your family/work/school/community/country/etc. would be like if everyone else thought/acted that way.
If everyone refused to pay public transit fares, what would change? And not in a utopia; what would/could *reasonably* happen.
Or how I like to think of it; would we become more like high trust, high-functioning societies, such as Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, etc., or less?
