#OTD Sept. 10, 1897 -Waverly, NJ- Major Taylor “wins in spite of all.” @bostonglobe explains: In 1-mile race, all the riders worked together in pairs, except Taylor, who had no ally. Still, Taylor maneuvered into position for final sprint, “winning in a most sensational manner.”

#OTD Sept. 8, 1899 - On a chainless bicycle, world champion Major Taylor wins a 5-mile pursuit & the half-mile open at Lake View Oval on Anna St., Worcester, "sprinting like a fiend ... very fast for the Oval."

125 years ago on this date, Aug. 3 - "Worcester Whirlwind" Major Taylor on a mission, chasing motor-paced bicycle world record. His frenemy Eddie McDuffee had clocked a mile in 1 minute, 28 seconds at New Bedford, MA, five days earlier.
