Theory: The Immortal Pirate King - The Narrative Implications of what of Luffy becomes Immortal What would it mean for the story if Luffy became Immortal? Thats the question I'm going to attempt to answer with this post. I think Luffy being Immortal can be really interesting but I see a lot of people just dismissing the idea without really giving it much thought. So I wanted to really dig into that discussion since I don't see a lot of people talking about it. This isn’t really meant to convince anybody that this will happen but rather this is just me explaining my thought process and why I think the way I do. So just because I believe this is going to happen doesn't mean you have to. This is just how I see Luffy’s story playing out and how I think him being Immortal may fit into the story. So this is not really a theory but more of an open discussion on how this would affect and fit into the ideas of One Piece So Luffy becoming immortal. Why would it happen? The most simple basic reason that makes this a possibility is because Law’s ability to grant eternal life is a very clear and blatant Chekhov's gun. Theres no way Oda would bring it up if it isn’t going to be used. Secondly there isn’t anybody more fitting than Luffy for this ability to be used on. This has to be someone Law has to be willing to give up his life for. Someone he has a strong bond with. So if it's used, can you imagine him doing that for anyone other than Luffy? I think not. I mean what significance would there be in anyone else becoming immortal? It can only be Luffy imo. Keep in mind I don't think this would be the end of Law's character either. I think it should be made clear on what type of immortality this is. The greatest power of this fruit, which has earned its reputation of being the "Ultimate Devil Fruit", is the ability to grant another person eternal youth via the "Perennial Youth Operation" (不老手術 Furō Shujutsu?, "Perpetual Youth Surgery" in the FUNimation subs and "Immortality Operation" in the Viz manga) though performing this feat comes at the cost of the current fruit user's life. Doflamingo sought out this fruit in order to trick Law into performing it on him so he could conquer the world and possibly rule over it forever.There are different types of Immortality and this type of Immortality in particular is just “Ageless” Immortality. The character can still die. They just can’t age.
