@BoCamaro Really cool when you hire someone like this and get to watch them get comfortable and start to open up. Usually make great employees.

Had a young man walk into my shop this morning and introduce himself....
No appointment. No calls.
Walks in and tells me he is a senior at UT in mechanical engineering and is hoping to be able to intern or work part time with us as he finishes . I can sense he is terrified. His hands are shaking.
He tells me has has some communication issues, and he struggles a little bit with answers. I told him I deal with it too. Not to worry.
Said it's taken him 6 years to get to his Senior year and that he struggled with some of the classes because of his situation.... BUT...
Do you know the heart it takes to walk into a place knowing you have some issues communicating, but you do it anyway because you see what you want, so you swallow the fear and go after it?
Yes, young man. I'll make a spot. We'll figure it out. Welcome to the family. We got you. Will make a fit.
Go get yours. A ton of doors may stay closed, but not all of them will. Sometimes, you'll meet people who understand and maybe fought some of those same battles. They'll get it.

In January, my landlord slipped a note under my door saying he was increasing rent starting in March.
It annoyed me enough that I started Googling tenant laws out of spite.
Turns out, in my state, rent increase notices have to be delivered at least 60 days in advance through certified mail not “handwritten notes”
So I sent him one calm email quoting the exact statute.
He never replied but the rent never went up.
But by then i was already down the rabbit hole. I found out my apartment had four separate code violations he was legally supposed to fix within 90 days of me moving in. He never fixed any of them.
Under local housing laws, that qualified me for a partial rent rebate.
So I filed a complaint with the housing authority on a Wednesday. They contacted him by Friday.
By Saturday, he was suddenly extremely friendly, offering to repair everything and “work something out privately”
I’m not a lawyer. I just got irritated one afternoon and had access to the internet.

@iamphella Lessons I've gifted.. Careers I've lifted.. Dishonorable mentions.. Redacted listings.. Listen.. If it were me that was in your position, I would cease and desist it, before I green light missions. *beat takes off*

@SpaceCadet_Marz @BTSMintChoco @_ayandamay I completely agree with you and even said I would never offer an unpaid trial period in another reply thread. My only point is any hiring manager who got that reply would laugh at the pompous tone and never think about it again. Someone will take the opportunity.
English

@7thUsername @BTSMintChoco @_ayandamay Hey, good on your friend for getting bags. I’ve always been paid for my labor and make good money doing something I find emotionally fulfilling. I just don’t want people to think that the only way yo be successful is to let themselves be taken advantage of.
English

@SpaceCadet_Marz @BTSMintChoco @_ayandamay I personally know someone who did a one week trial for an entry level position and is now a sales manager over the entire department making a shit ton of money. So as I said not always true. Nothing wrong with turning it down though.
English

@7thUsername @BTSMintChoco @_ayandamay Nah, always true. Why would anyone want to work for a company that is so cheap and poorly managed that they can’t invest what it takes to develop/keep good workers?
English

@RichOToole Those taquitos were crack cocaine to 4 year old me
English

@AnswerThePoll_ I find it hard to believe Trump will finish his term he would be insane to resign lol
English

@Kiroku_Eve @_ayandamay Missing the point. If it isn't for you someone else will take advantage. Just pass and move on. Nobody serious is going to read that pompous response and think about it more than 2 seconds. Just the reality lol
English

@7thUsername @_ayandamay oh no an employee who doesn't wanna work for free. the nightmare
English

@CashdoesntLIE @_ayandamay It is the pompous response that is the bullet dodged not the rejection. They cannot understand that.
English

@7thUsername @_ayandamay Non-business owners & non-management staff sadly will never understand this response.
English

@7thUsername @_ayandamay If you were making an offer with unpaid trial, then you are the said bullet others would dodge.

@reed131742 @JustIsBMBerlake @_ayandamay I'm over logistics/purchasing and am also the hiring manager. Only around 100 employee family owned business with not a lot of turnover so really only hire 10-12 people per year at most. Not sure why you're so bitter.
English

@7thUsername @JustIsBMBerlake @_ayandamay 😂😂😂 oh not actually filling positions you’re directly responsible for… just an HR shill… it all makes sense now
English

@reed131742 @JustIsBMBerlake @_ayandamay I never said that it didn't say unpaid you emotional child. I just stated that I would personally offer it paid at a reduced wage. I am a hiring manager.
English

@7thUsername @JustIsBMBerlake @_ayandamay It says unpaid you dense fuck, clearly you’ve never been in a hiring position
English

@7thUsername @JustIsBMBerlake @_ayandamay I work harder and make more than you ever will bitch. Go suck some more boomer dick. Or do you prefer taking it up the ass? Fuck ass bitch
English

@JT25Saints @JustIsBMBerlake @_ayandamay You hide your double chin with a bad beard and take truck selfies I think I will be okay. Respectfully of course.
English

@JT25Saints @JustIsBMBerlake @_ayandamay Nowhere have I said I want free labor. Bold to call me stupid when you lack reading comprehension. Also work on your impulse control.
English

@7thUsername @JustIsBMBerlake @_ayandamay You want free labor go live in China and run a sweat shop stupid fuck
English

@JustIsBMBerlake @_ayandamay Imo nobody is ever a perfect employee and a paid trial period is perfectly fair to the employer and employee to see if it is a good fit for both parties. I think it is under utilized. There will always be someone who will take the opportunity and run with it.
English

@7thUsername @_ayandamay people can also be a perfect employee for a week, lmao this doesn't prove anything, unless they are heavily unqualified which means the recruiters and hiring manager are even worse at their job. eitherway can't see a specialist of any kind agreeing to work for free for a week lol
