@JlfcISO20022 @johnmmulligan @Nick_Delehanty Yes but it won't be recorded as a spoiled vote. It'll be recorded as a vote for Jim Gavin. If people want a new campaign then they'll vote for Jim, not because they want him to be president.
English

@84OBrien @johnmmulligan @Nick_Delehanty So he withdrew from the campaign to get elected, hence if he wins he is still not going to be president.
The entire country knows this so by selecting Jim you are essentially spoiling your vote regardless.
So we can conclude it's really back to 2 candidates.
English

How many spoiled votes will there be next week? 🗳️
As far as I can tell, the highest % of spoiled votes in any Irish election was 5.2%....in the 1997 "Cabinet Confidentiality" referendum.
This referendum asked if courts should be allowed to lift Cabinet secrecy in rare cases, after the Beef Tribunal showed how ministers abused the confidentiality.
You’d think it would have been popular, but people were tired of tribunals and political excuses. The change was seen as Govt “tidying up” a rule for themselves rather than truly embracing accountability/transparency.
Irish Times noted: “Many papers carried angry messages or were left blank a protest against politicians and a vote nobody wanted.” 🇮🇪
I''m predicting 10% spoiled votes in this election.

English

@JlfcISO20022 @johnmmulligan @Nick_Delehanty Because he withdrew from the campaign. But he can't withdraw from the election as you can't legally after being nominated. All you can do is stop promoting yourself.
English

@84OBrien @johnmmulligan @Nick_Delehanty Why hasn't Jim featured in any of the debates recently to you reckon?
English

@JlfcISO20022 @johnmmulligan @Nick_Delehanty Yes if he gets the most votes he's elected. It's up to him to accept or resign. If he resigns then a new campaign would be needed
English

@84OBrien @johnmmulligan @Nick_Delehanty Yes, so let's say Jim gets 90% of the vote. Will he be elected president?
English

@JlfcISO20022 @johnmmulligan @Nick_Delehanty Voting for Jim is a valid vote and not a spoiled vote. It will be counted as a vote for Jim Gavin. He's still a valid candidate and can be elected still
English

@johnmmulligan @Nick_Delehanty I know a lot of people who will spoil their vote. If it was 10% I don't think they would tell us..
I would like to see the breakdown of spoilt votes e.g how many people vote for Jim, how many just put a line or x through voting card.

@fiannafailparty You're a lier, broken promises already. People won't forget this. People working their bollox off for nothing. You'd be better looked after coming in on a boat
English

@DarraghOBrienTD So the manifesto has already been ripped up. The people were lied to. False promises. Nothing in the budget for the people working their bollox off everyday, putting kids through school and childcare. Absolute con artists running this country
English

@MaryLouMcDonald Country on its knees, every single service and department in crisis. An absolute shithole of a country to be living in. Clueless clowns running the place
English

We’ve just heard a Budget written by Fine Gael which abandons workers and families to look after those at the top. No action to end the rip off, no break on tax for ordinary workers but big tax breaks for developers, and people left high and dry as prices soar out of control. Election promises torn-up and thrown in the bin by one of the most useless governments ever. Enough is enough. You and your family deserve so much better. That’s what we will fight for.

@rtenews Best thing people can do is vote for Jim Gavin and force a new campaign
English

Jim Gavin's name will remain on the ballot paper for the Presidential Election, despite him withdrawing from the campaign at the weekend

@johnmadden2706 @ciaranmullooly @crowneplazadub @peterburkefg @Failte_Ireland @irishhotelsfed @MichealMartinTD No absolutely not, it's a case of supply and demand like most businesses. If people weren't willing to pay it they wouldn't charge it. It questions whether hotels are just taking profitability into account or is there any consideration for customers and fairness. Needs balance.
English

@84OBrien @ciaranmullooly @crowneplazadub @peterburkefg @Failte_Ireland @irishhotelsfed @MichealMartinTD So the government should put price controls on the hotel industry? Should we do the same on all airlines operating out of Dublin airport? Slippery slope
English

One night’s b & b on a week night : 453 euro? : Is this for real @crowneplazadub ?? On a Monday night in late September ? There must be an issue here . Explanation please for a patient’s relative in Santry hospital who thinks it’s a TOTAL RIP-OFF ? There will be a follow-up

English

@ciaranmullooly @johnmadden2706 @crowneplazadub @peterburkefg @Failte_Ireland @irishhotelsfed @MichealMartinTD It's gouging the American tourists who will be here for a week at least for this event. Its a massive event attracting huge numbers of Americans for tourism
English

@johnmadden2706 @crowneplazadub @peterburkefg @Failte_Ireland @irishhotelsfed @MichealMartinTD this is the Monday night after the game . Surely it’s a mistake ? @crowneplazadub
