🏏8:56 Cricket 🏏 The new season is fast approaching, and we’re looking forward to another summer of 8:56 Cricket—raising awareness and support for men’s mental health through the power of social cricket. Our fixture list is already taking shape, with a few more matches currently in discussion. This year, we’ll be bringing a dedicated Support Pack to every game, including posters, wellbeing booklets, and information on where to find help. The team is aiming to raise enough funds to provide 200 Talking Therapy sessions across the season—support that can make a real difference to men in our communities. To help us reach this goal, we’re looking for sponsors for matches, match balls, and 8:56 players. Sponsors will be recognised on our social channels and featured in match information throughout the season. If you’re interested in supporting us, please email fundraising@856.org.uk or message us through our socials. After last year’s incredible response, our Wear It Green Weekend will also return on 6–7 June—a dedicated weekend for raising awareness across cricket. On what was a very cold Saturday, we visited our friends over at @longsuttonhockeyclub to raise awareness and support for the Foundation and men's mental health. Thank you to James Baker for arranging the visit and to everyone who bought our new #WearItGreen laces, socks and Bobble Hats (which were very popular!) and for buying the teas and coffees which raised over £50!! Last Thursday our Time to Talk Support Group welcomed Derek Berry, who bravely shared his mental health journey with us. Derek is 70 and has lived with mental health challenges for over 60 years. He reached out to us back in December because he wanted to tell his story — not just for himself, but to help others feel less alone. A last‑minute venue change added to his anxiety, but as Derek reminded us: “It’s not about the venue, it’s about the people.” And he was right. He found a space where he felt safe, listened to, and able to be himself. We’ve already seen how much sharing has helped him — and how much his honesty has helped others. Derek’s message to anyone thinking about coming along: If you already come, please keep coming. If you’re thinking about it, give it a try. It takes courage, but the welcome is worth it. A firm favourite — a fun one, in and out of alley ways and streets around town!! If you enjoy running, new to the area or even training for GEAR join team 8:56 social run. We’re not a professional running group, just a group of people who enjoy a Sunday morning social run with a cup of coffee at the end. An opportunity to socialise, talk and get out of the house. Firstly, our thoughts are with the team at the Steam Café following its closure this week. We cannot thank them enough for the support they’ve shown our Men’s Time To Talk Group over the last three years. Their kindness and support have helped so many of the men who walk through our doors. This month we welcomed 18 men, including 3 who were new to the group. It was a powerful reminder of why spaces like this matter — a place to talk, to listen, and to feel part of something. A heartfelt thank you to Derek Berry for sharing his journey with such honesty. His story resonated deeply, and the room was full of men who left feeling inspired and encouraged. And finally, our sincere thanks to @marriotts_warehouse_trust Marriotts for stepping in to provide a home for this month’s session.
