At this week’s House of Delegates meeting, our delegates rose to their feet in a powerful standing ovation for Erik Schultz, president of United Steelworkers Local 7-1, representing more than 800 workers locked out of the bp refinery for 55 days. These workers are fighting to protect their contractual rights, their union, and the dignity of every working person. President Schultz made it clear: the company’s endgame is union busting. But labor knows what happens when working people stand together, solidarity becomes stronger than fear. The Chicago Teachers Union stands in solidarity with our union siblings at USW 7-1. We are asking our members and community to stand with these workers by not filling up at BP Amoco for the duration of the lockout. Members are encouraged to support these workers and their families by donating to the strike fund atsupportoilworkers.com. This is what solidarity looks like. An injury to one is an injury to all.✊🏽
