Hi y'all!! Deeply personal and hella long post below!! Tw: death Today is my mom's birthday and I want to take a second to honor her and the impact she has had on me as a person. In the beginning of 2022, she passed away due to health complications. I was 22 at the time, and there are so many things I wish I did differently, words I should and shouldn't have said, patience I should've had, but obviously there's no changing the past! Somewhere along my journey with grief, I made a conscious decision to try my best to carry the lessons she taught me forward to the best of my ability. Here are some of the things I've learned (and am still learning!) Kill them with kindness: this was my mom's favorite quote and it always annoyed me when I was younger. Why should I treat people with kindness if they refuse to extend any my way? Nowadays, I'm seeing the value in this practice more and more. Whether it's a toxic soloq teammate or a rude person at the grocery store, hate begets hate. Trying my best to stay kind (or to just remove myself from the situation lol) feels a lot better (and more productive!) than a screaming match. (This comes with some caveats ofc lol) Beee whoooo youuuu areeee: my mother was UNABASHEDLY herself no matter where she went, who she was talking to, or what she was doing. I used to find this embarrassing (like PLEASE just let us order our food mom 😭😭) but now I admire how she refused to dim her sparkle for anyone. I try to embody this every day by being and embracing the chaotic and chop man that I am!!!! Let your passion guide you: my mom was passionate about education, and she worked for 30+ years as an ESL teacher. Even after she retired and adopted my sister and I, she still tried her best to help us with homework, practice math with flash cards, and DRILLED grammar into us (if there are any grammatical errors in this plz look the other way... 🫪) She also loved dressing up as Santa Claus (not Mrs Claus literally SANTA!! like okay drag king!!) and reading to kids at our local library. Following my own passions (for education, creativity, animals, performance, etc) has led me to an eerily similar (but like woke and gay 2026 version) position to where she was and that fills me with so much joy (when u think abt it her dressing up and reading a story to an audience is BASICALLY vtubing!!!) Share your emotions freely, ESPECIALLY love: my mom loved everybody and she made sure to let them know. This is something I REALLY struggled with prior to her passing, but now I find myself constantly looking back and wishing that I showed her just how much I care about her. I don't ever want to repeat that mistake again. On that note, I know I've said it a lot, but I love you guys and this little vtubing sphere so much. I've never seen or had the pleasure of interacting with so many incredibly talented, creative, kind, admirable, hilarious, and hard working people prior to getting back into streaming. Even with all its chaos, I'm so happy to feel this sense of community during times that feel increasingly scary and isolating. Happy birthday Mom! Every day I live is in your honor, but especially today. I love you forever and always.
