Assault work might be for the Pros, but attack work is for Wild. When I assessed for the 160th, I asked for Chinooks and Ft Lewis. I got- DAPs (the attack blackhawk) and Ft Campbell. (I thank God frequently for this) Attack work can be as simple as: give me grid, target, ammo, fuel, and as complex as targets squirting away from buildings while friendlies are just outside the door. I have seen Jesus before- He is the Air Force special operations CCT orchestrating the air power while on the ground in the middle of what most would call chaos. I distinctly recall one evening on a ISIS target: -bombers to the left and right -ground force right outside the building -the lead DAP so close to that building, hammering away that it looked like he was hovering and knocking on the front door -squirters in every direction -AC 130 overhead playing "tag, your it" -me, still a junior guy, in the right seat trying to keep up with the radios And then coming back at 6am, flying into the most epic sunrise in the Eastern mountains of Iraq. I had a typical average career at the 160th, and found attack work to be incredibly fun, while demanding a personality transformation I didn't know I was capable of.
