Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has endorsed Defence Minister Jacob Oboth-Oboth for Speaker of Uganda’s 12th Parliament. In a post on X, Muhoozi described Oboth-Oboth as the best minister in government over the past five years and said he is backing him for the 2026-2031 speakership race. Pope Leo XIV has appointed Most Rev. Tomasz Grysa as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda. The announcement was made by the Apostolic Nunciature in Uganda in a communication to Catholic media issued on May 14, 2026. Lira City Mayor Sam Atul has questioned the quality of some leaders in Uganda, saying many politicians make unrealistic promises during campaigns and later fail to deliver, creating frustration among citizens. Atul said such conduct weakens public trust in leadership and contributes to growing disunity in the country. Former Lands Minister Daniel Omara Atubo also blamed Uganda’s disunity on greedy politicians who abandon public service after gaining power. Speaking during the 2026 GANAL Provincial Prayer Peace Week in Lira, Atubo said some leaders misuse public resources and treat politics as a path to personal gain instead of serving the people. A leadership dispute has erupted in Bar-Odilo PDM SACCO in Teboke Sub-county, Apac District, following the death of its chairperson, Geoffrey Oluk. One member, Jonald Ogada, claims about Shs50 million sent by government under PDM in the last quarter was mismanaged, leaving some intended beneficiaries without support. A 30-year-old tailor in Amolatar District has been arrested for allegedly locking up and sexually abusing a Senior One student for two weeks. Amolatar DPC John Mafabi identified the suspect as Brenda Aketowanga, a tailor at Alemere Trading Centre and a native of Agago District. Police say the woman allegedly lured the student, whose father had him sell meat at a local butchery, before keeping him inside her house until May 12, 2026. The boy’s parents later traced him to the suspect’s house, forced the door open, and reportedly found him hidden among clothes as the suspect tried to escape. Police have opened a case of defilement under SD Ref: 23/12/05/2026. The suspect and the boy have been taken for medical examination as investigations continue. #UnityfmNews | #UnityAt25
