We have sunspots! Looks like the old AR 4366 is back, the large leader spot is rotating into view. No official designation yet. Let's see what follows it!

The sunspot number is super low over the past few days, with preliminary values of 4, 9 and 2 over the past three days. There are a few super tiny sunspots / pores near the center of the solar disk, but nothing significant. The average sunspot number for the month is in free fall, now below 90 an it will likely keep dropping unless new active region develop and/or rotate into view (they will, shortly). We will likely see a major drop in the monthly sunspot number from January (112.6), but we have seen lower values recently: November 2025 had 91.8 and May 2025 had 78.5!

@HZ1DG @TamithaSkov It’s looking active again, yes! A CME is on the way, and if that southward Bz holds when it arrives, we could see some real geomagnetic action. Fingers crossed for some decent openings on 6m or even aurora let’s keep an eye on the data over the next 24–48 hours. 73!

@TamithaSkov This has clearly had a negative impact on HF and VHF frequencies for about a week now.

Looking at the suprathermal data from ACE, the lack of a low energy decrease hints there is another shock nearby. So, yes, it is possible we could see another structure. This could be one of the several expected glancing blows by the storms launched to the west of Earth around midday December 8. There are at least two contenders out there. After that we will get some fast wind so the fun is not yet over!
