@KenCunn77721220 What I make of everyone from Eby to Ford to Trudeau giving out cheques is that our political class is collectively out of ideas. It’s pathetic.

@9x19 I honestly can’t remember a time when 🇨🇦 3 principle parties were all utter shite nearly all the time. Gives u a nice warm glow when u try to imagine how they’ll collectively square up to Trump 2.0
English

@cselley Don’t worry, he only wants us to pretend to try and that’s Canada's superpower

The best plan to tackle the "vibecession" is to find a time machine, travel back to 2021-2023, and allow wages to grow in line with the tight labour market rather than trying to suppress those wages at the request of the business lobby.

If you needed any more proof that the NDP are utterly spent as a progressive force, here is their tantrum for more handouts to the rich.

@RyanMorasiewicz Don't know the answer but thanks for turning me on to what seems to be a much better resource for backcountry weather than Garmin's forecasts. No more messaging friends from my InReach and asking them to summarize a good forecast and send it back.
English

A rather specific question... has anyone tried BoltWx (boltwx.com) using Apple IPhone's satellite texting capability (not a satellite specific communicator like InReach, Zoleo, etc.)? Does it work?
English

It wasn’t their fault. They didn’t know handing $50,000 in a brown paper bag to an unlicensed immigration consultant isn’t how you apply for college.

@BramRecorder That principle was sound but the big mistakes were allowing unlimited off campus work (effectively making study permits work visas for sale) and allowing non degree granting institutions to apply for an unlimited number of study permits.

@9x19 While it has been heavily Liberal driven, the Harper government deliberately created a path to permanent residency due to influence from a big consulting firm, which pointed out it was silly to not give Canadian educated foreigners in important fields permanent residency.
English

What’s at stake here is whether our government actually has control of immigration policy or if this becomes another area where the policy levers simply don’t work.
It’s dangerous for Canada and our politics if we continue to tolerate widespread fraud.

@joshuahind You’d be run over then the police would arrest your corpse for blocking traffic.

@RyanMorasiewicz I wonder what capabilities it will offer for geolocation, both for rescue and to connect with the geographically correct 911 centre. I don’t think conventional sat phones can dial 911? But absolutely a game changer for SAR.
English

Potential gamechanger for SAR (where cell phone dead zones in the backcountry render comms with a lost/injured subject impossible unless they have a satellite messaging device (or newer IPhone)).

After thinking it through, SpaceX Starlink will provide emergency services access for mobile phones for people in distress for free. This applies worldwide, subject to approval by country governments. Can’t have a situation where someone dies because they forgot or were unable to pay for it.

One of the incredible things about Toronto’s political system is that each councillor acts as a de facto mini-governor of their ward and is generally allowed to, um, manage the affairs of the local dog park according to their whims.
