People will denigrate Yoruba women at the slightest opportunity because we’ve been conditioned to let things slide. We see the constant subtle jabs, the stereotypes, the disrespect disguised as ‘banter’ and most times, we choose silence.
But that silence has been misread as weakness, or worse, permission.
What’s even more ironic is watching the same people who push these narratives turn around and loudly identify as feminists, the supposed advocates for equality and opportunity, but only when it’s convenient or when it benefits them.
You can’t claim to stand for women and still participate in the quiet, consistent undermining of a specific group of women.
Feminism isn’t selective. Respect isn’t selective.
If you believe in equality, it has to show in how you speak about all women , not just the ones you relate to or choose to protect.

Feminist, but you hate yoruba women. This is someone I see some top yoruba feminists kikiki with. Since 2013 o 😂🤦🏾♀️, I have a folder full of this for you to know how bad it is, but I’ll keep them for later. When I tell you some of these feminists will throw you under the bus just because you’re Yoruba, the hatred that they have for you as a Yoruba woman, you don’t want to know. She literally called us an animal and even inserted colourism at a point! For how long will we keep quiet about this? This is why we are telling skit makers and movie actors to stop portraying Yoruba women in such negative stereotype. We don’t find it funny! Yoruba women aren’t loose, dirty or ugly. We are one of the most fashion forward, beautiful and educated women in Nigeria. We care about our health and we’re not automatic infection carriers like it’s been portrayed on here. My question is, what did we do to deserve this??? We are just fun loving people that likes to achieve great things and celebrate with owanbe, wearing our gele and aso ofi. The Yoruba raised themselves to be leaders, not victims. Historically, this self-assurance perhaps clouded our awareness of how deeply we are envied, and even hated, by groups who regularly enter our space to find the prosperity they cannot build elsewhere.
This anti-Yoruba women exposé and many other revelations within the political space have stripped away the mask. The depth of animosity held by other ethnic groups toward the Yoruba is no longer a matter of speculation; it is an undeniable reality.
This hostility manifests in various ways: covert subsurface political maneuvering designed to undermine Yoruba interests, blatant rhetoric and actions aimed at demeaning our cultural heritage and ownership, the use of banters and disparaging stereotypes specifically targeting Yoruba women to insult our collective honour.
There is nothing more important than the Yoruba being more united and unapologetically self-aware. We must realize that our progress is viewed as a threat by those who prefer us divided. We can no longer afford to cower or play the big brother role to our own detriment.
True leadership requires recognizing your enemies as clearly as you recognize your allies. Our survival depends on a unified front that refuses to be intimidated, silenced, or displaced in our own home.
