Ever wake up feeling confused, foggy, or unsure where you are—even though you’re technically awake? 😵💫 You may have experienced a confusional arousal.
These brief episodes happen when the brain doesn’t fully transition out of deep sleep, so thinking, speech, and awareness can be slowed or unclear. To others, you may look awake, but you’re not fully alert.
They’re most common in children but can also occur in adults, especially with sleep deprivation, irregular schedules, or other sleep disorders.
While usually harmless and short-lived, frequent episodes are worth paying attention to.

This Mother’s Day weekend, check in with the moms in your life and ask how they’re really sleeping. 💙🧡
Women’s sleep is influenced by so many factors throughout life — from hormonal changes and pregnancy to caregiving responsibilities, stress, and menopause. And too often, sleep struggles are brushed aside as “normal.”
But poor sleep shouldn’t just be accepted. Healthy sleep is an important part of overall health and well-being.
Take a moment to encourage the women in your life (and yourself!) to prioritize rest, recovery, and sleep health. And if sleep problems persist, talk to a sleep doctor to get the help and support you deserve.

Is your teen staying up past midnight and sleeping in late? That habit might be doing more than making mornings rough. 💡 A new study from Penn State College of Medicine found that teens who keep later bedtimes and wake times were more likely to consume more calories, snack more, and be less physically active. 😴

Sleep difficulties are common—and sleep aids are widely used.
In 2024, 15.4% of U.S. adults reported trouble falling asleep most days or every day in the past 30 days. Because inadequate sleep is linked to both physical and mental health impacts, many adults turn to a range of sleep aids, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, supplements, and sometimes marijuana or CBD products.
A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explores how sleep aid use varies by age and sex among U.S. adults.
