In hollowing out the Voting Rights Act, the Supreme Court has taken deliberate steps to deny meaningful representation for African Americans and others who have been historically disenfranchised. Read our full statement here: psc-cuny.org/news-events/st…

This is good news for free speech rights in Texas. Professors should not lose their jobs because administrators and politicians disagree with their opinions. Isn’t this a basic American value?

A federal judge on Monday blocked Texas State University from firing a professor who says the school punished him for an off-campus talk about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. texastribune.org/2026/03/25/tex…

We agree with St. John’s University @AAUP and Faculty Association members—union busting is unholy. St. John's is arbitrarily withdrawing recognition of its faculty unions, which have stood with staff for 50 years. The future of academia needs staff voices. #HandsOffSJUfaculty

New York is a union town—that means every worker deserves the right to organize. St. John's decision to end recognition of their long-standing faculty union is deeply concerning. I stand with faculty and staff in their fight for the workplace they—and their students—deserve.

This is the best statement I’ve ever read. Kudos to @ruaaup 🙏🏽 You have stood up for American ideals, academic freedom, free speech, human rights and basic decency in a way that @RutgersU leadership has completely and embarrassingly failed.

Higher Education Labor United (HELU)
In Maine, students, families, and workers are taking the brunt of damage from the lack of public funding for higher education. Wages don't keep pace with the cost of living and workers are asked to do more with less while students pay more. Does that sound familiar?

The public's worries surrounding politicization on college campuses stand in sharp contrast to students' own experiences, a study by @LuminaFound and @Gallup showed.

War going badly, so WH investigates trans students at @smithcollege Good time to recycle this: "My trans students have made me think hard about transformation and identity, about nature and convention, about character and performance." latimes.com/opinion/story/…

Ken Burns is a masterclass in history and storytelling. His willingness to speak out in defense of academic freedom and against censorship is fantastic. So where are the Democrats, Republicans, and others who claim to support the freedom to learn? The risk in speaking up is minimal. Most Americans do not support censorship or political interference in education. This should be a no-brainer. linkedin.com/posts/the-chro…

Topics are being banned. Political pressure is rising. Higher education is under attack. And fear is doing the rest. Fear of losing our jobs. Fear of stalled careers. Fear of retaliation. But silence has consequences too. Professors, if we don’t stand now, we risk the slow erosion of our institutions, our professions, and the education our students deserve. Yes—there is risk in speaking out. But the long-term cost of staying quiet is far greater. Let's stand together and push back. #AcademicFreedom youtube.com/shorts/ckhkGxz…

The @AAUP & the AFT have just issued a strong & helpful statement defending academic freedom and condemning the ridiculous campaign of intimidation that has been launched against me. I am most grateful for this. Here is the statement: aaup.org/news/aaup-aft-…

"About 80% of full-time faculty members nationwide were contracted to work only nine or 10 months per year in 2024, according to federal figures compiled by Glenn Colby, a senior research officer with @AAUP. The remainder were contracted to work for 11 or 12 months annually." chronicle.com/article/summer…

"Right now, higher education is under attack. Nationally, deliberately, systematically, federal research funding is being gutted, adjunct faculty are facing economic hardship and job insecurity, and academic freedom is on the chopping block." -- H. Ege Ozen, Professor at @csinews
