Pope Leo: “[Jesus] does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them.” There is absolutely no biblical basis for this whatsoever. Christians should strive for peace, yes. We don’t revel in death and destruction. And a Christian could make a sound argument against the particulars of many wars throughout history, including the war with Iran today. A Christian could also agree that God shouldn’t be used to justify unjust wars. But to say that God is against war per se is flat out false. All throughout the Old Testament God calls for war in defense of His people. Exodus 15:3 declares, “The Lord is a man of war; the Lord is His name.” David constantly prayed to the Lord while battling his enemies. He says his cries to the Lord “reached His ears” and God answered him. God didn’t just answer David by hiding him away but by giving him lethal strength: “He trains my hands for war” (Psalm 18:6, 34). If you discount these examples because they’re in the Old Testament, you don’t understand Scripture or God. Jesus is God; therefore everything God has ever done Jesus has fully agreed with and participated in, and He does not change (Hebrews 13:8). Mind you also that Jesus Himself promises to come back as a warrior to wage war against evildoers. There are categories of people whose prayers God does not answer: the self-righteous, those who pray with selfish motives. People who wage war are not automatically in one of these categories. I’m so glad our founders did not believe this way. I love this retelling of the story of the pacifist Quaker who allegedly heard Washington praying in the woods at Valley Forge: “He was at Prayer to the God of the Armies, beseeching to interpose with his Divine aid, as it was His crisis, and the cause of the country, of humanity, and of the world.” Sometimes force is necessary to defeat evil and advance good. When it comes to these matters, Pope Leo has repeatedly proven that he is not wise.

It isn’t, “Praise God, but these more pure testimonies are better.” This isn’t alcoholics anonymous. This isn’t, “I identify with my old sin because — ” No, dude. It should be, “Praise God that Jesus Christ saves humble sinners!”

It is proof positive that the Gospel changes lives that Allah, Mohammed, Buddha, Krishna, and any other so called god can’t. Paul had a testimony like that. The woman at the well had a testimony like that. The woman of Luke 7 had a testimony like that.

@ProLifeBigTex Once again, to bless a person - IN THEIR SIN - is to partake in that sin yourself. Many Catholics interpret the pope’s words that way. To answer your question, no; but that isn’t the same concern being raised at all.

@AAdams3043 He is not blessing their sin; he is blessing the person. When I was in the hospital, my priest blessed me. Does that mean he blessed all my sins?

Yeah, cuz there’s no such thing as Protestant churches with ecclesiastical structure that are condemning this. As we all know, this is all Martin Luther’s fault. If he woulda just been a good boy and paid some indulgences, the church would’ve been forever unified,

@Protestia This is the logical conclusion of evangelicalism. When you have no standard for what is and isn’t a church, you get porn star church. Protestantism unleashed this on Christianity through Sola Scriptura doctrine. Your personal interpretation of the Bible is all that matters!

@ProLifeBigTex My experience with Catholics also interacting with Begg & other prominent Protestants saying the same thing the pope did tells me a different story as well. When Begg said to do it, it was a scandal. The way to bless people in sin is to preach the gospel, and call them to repent.

@ProLifeBigTex Yeah, I get WHAT he said; and to be clear, I’m not saying we need to be jerks to gay people. They need Jesus just as much as you and I do. That isn’t the issue. The issue is that the Bible says that to bless another in their sin is to partake in their evil work.

@ProLifeBigTex Catholics (who still had Pope Francis at the time) and Protestants alike both said that it was akin to endorsing the “marriage”. And you know something? They were right; but Catholics aren’t willing to extend that logic to their own institution.

@ProLifeBigTex Pope Francis literally blessed same sex couples, and tried to say, “Yeah, but it’s not blessing the marriage.”

"Nevermind the fact that the majority of Catholics think gay marriage and abortion is okay." I've never met one.

Sola Scriptura just means the Bible is the ONLY INFALLIBLE authority, not the only authority, period. Can’t justify your belief from the Bible? Cool. It’s not biblical then. That’s why Catholics hate it.

Nevermind the fact that the majority of Catholics think gay marriage and abortion is okay. Nevermind the fact that 100% of Bible believing Protestant condemn this. (Also not what Sola Scriptura means, by the way, but don’t let facts get in the way of narrative.)
