Eid Mubarak 🌙 To every worker observing Eid Al-Fitr — Reminder that your employer has a legal duty to accommodate Eid prayer under the Alberta Human Rights Act. That could mean a day off, adjusted hours, coming in late, or making up the time later. They have to figure SOMETHING out. They can't just say no. Know your rights, and have a beautiful Eid!

Alberta's attacks on unions are straight out of the authoritarian playbook. It's not a coincidence. It's not a mistake. Every authoritarian in history has gone after unions first — because unions are the only thing standing between workers and unchecked power. We've seen it before. We're seeing it again. Watch Episode 2 of The Worker Agenda here 🎙️👇 youtube.com/watch?v=1C3Tyn… What do you think — is Alberta following a dangerous pattern? 👇

While you're working 3 jobs just to keep the lights on, they want you arguing about separatism. Divide and conquer is the oldest trick in the book, and it's happening right here in Alberta. When you're treading water, you don't have time to fight back. That's what they want. Alberta workers deserve a government focused on what actually matters: affordability, housing, and wages that keep up with the cost of living. This is Episode 2 of The Worker Agenda 🎙️ — real solutions for Albertans. Full episode here: youtube.com/watch?v=1C3Tyn…

🚨 Say NO to two-tier, American-style health care. Alberta's Bill 11 opens the door to for-profit health insurance — the biggest threat to universal Medicare we've ever seen. Not just for Albertans. For ALL Canadians. That's why health coalitions coast to coast are taking action. 📅 Monday, March 16, 2026 🕛 12:00pm MST 📍 EDMONTON Edmonton Centre Constituency Office 12220 Stony Plain Rd NW 📍 CALGARY Calgary Confederation Constituency Office 1717 10 St NW friendsofmedicare.org/events

Alberta can’t let this war make wealthy executives and shareholders grow richer while everyday Albertans struggle with inflated energy and living costs. Our resources should work for all of us, not just those at the top. A windfall profits tax would capture those unearned excess profits and put them to work for Albertans. The revenues can — and should — be used to fund direct subsidies for families facing higher energy and living costs right now.

As global oil prices spike because of the U.S./Israel war on Iran, we’re calling on the Government of Alberta to adopt a windfall profits tax on large oil companies. Here’s why 🧵👇

🗓️ Tuesday, March 10th @ 12:00pm (Noon) 📍 Alberta Legislature Grounds, 10800 - 97 Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T5K 2B6. As we have seen in the last six months, the Alberta government has been attacking individual rights using the Notwithstanding clause, attacking the independence of the judiciary, trying to insulate themselves from being held accountable by the courts and the Law Society of Alberta (LSA), and denying funding through the Alberta Law Foundation to organizations that further the rule of law and help the public. At the moment, the LSA is also being quiet on the issue. Thus, we must take action and have our voices heard that this attack on the rule of law will not be tolerated. This is bigger than just criminal defence counsel. It's bigger than just lawyers. This impacts all Join the Alberta Coalition of Defence Lawyers and fellow Albertans as we rally at the Alberta Legislature tomorrow against the Alberta government's attacks on the systems that protect our fundamental legal rights! NOTE: This rally is not being organized by the Alberta Federation of Labour. We are sharing in solidarity to help spread the word! ✊

“What our Premier is proposing is not democracy, it’s manipulation. She’s going to use millions and millions of our tax dollars to engage in a nine-month public relations campaign, aimed at selling policies that the vast majority Albertans never asked for and don’t want. If Danielle Smith wants a new mandate for her MAGA-North, stealth-separatist agenda, there’s a tried, tested and true democratic mechanism that we’ve developed over centuries exactly for that purpose. It’s called an election. Enough with this referendum nonsense! Call an election now!” - AFL President @gilmcgowan

Welcome, CUPE 1825! 🎉 We are incredibly excited to officially welcome the support staff of the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division as the newest affiliate of the Alberta Federation of Labour. CUPE 1825 marks our fourth new member union to join the AFL in less than a year. This momentum is a powerful reminder that the Alberta labour movement is growing, evolving, and getting louder. As CUPE 1825 President Joanne Lavkulich highlighted, recent challenges like the ATA strike have underscored the urgent need for strong advocacy and a unified voice. By joining forces, we’re making sure that voice is impossible to ignore.

“On behalf of everyone at the Alberta Federation of Labour, I want to express our sincere condolences to the parents, children, teachers, school staff, and community members in the close-knit town of Tumbler Ridge. Yesterday’s tragedy has horrified Canadians and the world. Thank you to first responders and for all those rallying to the support of those in need.” - Gil McGowan, AFL President. 🕊️❤️‍🩹

This Black History Month, the AFL honours the profound contributions of Black leaders who have been—and continue to be—at the forefront of the labour movement, social justice, and the fight for a fairer society. History shows us that the struggle for economic justice is inseparable from the struggle for racial justice. From the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, who organized the first Black railway union in Canada to sign an agreement with a white employer, to the modern leaders championing equity in our workplaces today, Black union members have consistently pushed our movement to be more inclusive and more powerful.
