It reminds me of Pablo Escobar’s story. Despite all the atrocities he committed and the ruthless life he lived, many people still saw him as a king and a savior. The man even wielded more influence than the country’s president at the time. It’s fascinating how power and public perception can sometimes overshadow morality.

Forget what you see on social media. The stories on the street is different from what you see here. Abacha, despite all he did, had his own die hard loyalists who cried for him when he died. Those who knew Toba back in the early 2000s around Fadeyi and co have nothing good to say about him. He may have changed? Right. He may have. But what about the crimes he committed? What about the people his boys killed? What about innocent students that were killed? I am just putting this out so that you can know there is another side to the story. Forget sey he dey share rice, the entire story is more than what you see on social media.

There's a reason behind it.
In those days, there wasn't a way to monitor who hunts what. If they had said don't hunt vultures, people would hunt and eat them anyways. So, they created fears around it to conserve vultures.
They said "Ẹni pagúnnugún kìí kádún," which means whoever kills vulture will not last till the following year. Dear of death made people leave vultures alone. This was one of our forebearers way of practicing conservation of animals they see as important.

I just heard a story and my body is shaking…
A 13-year old boy in Maiduguri was selling sugarcane in a wheelbarrow for his father.
Inside the scorching sun, he decided to push his wheelbarrow to a nearby tree for shade & for him to rest for a while.
As he pushed his wheelbarrow tired, he mistakenly brushed the front of a parked car & the headlamp fell off. He looked around & couldn’t find the owner. His conscience didn’t let him walk away from the car. So he waited for the owner who happened to be praying in a nearby mosque.
The owner finished his prayers & found this 13-year old boy and the damage he has done. He called the police and ordered the boy be put in prison.
Recently, this 13-year old boy just got released from prison, after spending 47 years in prison, at the age of 60 years.
At this point, I broke down in tears.
He was literally moved from one prison to the other all over Nigeria in the course of this 47 years in prison.
He only got released because a governor granted him pardon.
May Nigeria never happen to you.
