@mpj_btc Coach, take your picture off the top of your resume. Only bring resumes with your picture to an in person interview. That was a tip given by a career professional talking to a group of my players that I have also adapted. She said it disqualifies your application some times.

UPDATE: unfortunately, I didn’t get an interview. Even with this résumé, I guess not having “HC” experience makes a big difference. I understand there’s others who are very good at their craft and have had or have that position now, but how can anyone get experience w/o a chance!

@DavonUsher This is perfect. Delgation should be the standard in any program. Sucks when HC’s have people on the staff who can do this but don’t trust them.

At High Point, Flynn Clayman runs his staff differently. Instead of assistants doing a little bit of everything, he assigns coordinators: One owns offense. One owns defense. One owns special teams. Not traditional. But intentional. Because when everyone is responsible for everything… no one truly grows. Clayman learned this from his mentors. When he was trusted to run the offense, it accelerated his development. So now, he does the same for his staff. Yes, you give up some control. But you gain clarity, ownership, and better coaching. Assistants aren’t just helping anymore. They’re leading. And when coaches grow, the team grows. Build a staff where people can specialize, own their role, and thrive, not just survive. Are you asking your people to do everything… or putting them in positions to be great at something?

As long as the rockets keep trying to make Amen Thompson a primary decision maker they will continue to lose games. Take a player who has never been a facilitator and try to make him one on the highest level of basketball in the world. Doesn’t make sense.
