I need a thinkpiece from every pundit that told me in great detail why the Metaverse was shut down to tell me in same detail why it’s back

ICYMI this from my AMA yesterday. We’ve decided to retain existing Horizon Worlds in VR for the foreseeable future. I know this is a bit of whiplash just a few days after we announced something different, but Horizon has some real fans in the VR community and they encouraged us to reconsider our decision.

This Is What People Never Understood About Horizon Worlds…LONG READ! No One Who Loved Horizon Wanted It Be The Focus Of The Quest Platform…PERIOD! Majority of the Horizon Worlds community didn’t ask for individuals worlds to be in the store with other VR apps built by the 3rd party developers . We didn’t ask for individual worlds to be in the Quest library. We didn’t ask for the mobile app to be overtaken with Horizon Worlds either. What we wanted was a metaverse platform that would allow us to collaborate with our friends and family, build creative worlds, and build community with other likeminded individuals. @JoyReignVr and I fell in love with VR many years ago and later found Horizon Worlds as our metaverse home in headset. Yes we tried VR Chat , Rec Room, Spatial, Multiverse , and so many others. None of them gave us what we were truly looking for which was a social connection like we found in Horizon Worlds. We spent long hours in Horizon in the early days of 2022-2024. We’ve seen the platform go through many changes and yet we still stayed and endured, because contrary to popular belief, we found community there that we couldn’t find anywhere else (Yes, a thriving community of talented, creative adults from across the world; for those who thought Horizon Worlds were only for screaming children). These hot takes about good riddance to Horizon Worlds from folks who never even spent a full hour in the platform or who are bitter at Meta themselves, because they don’t like Meta anyways, can never understand why so many folks ( Yes, I said many) found Horizon to be safe space to be creative and learn new skill sets. For the people who are upset about the VR portion being discontinued, those are the people who built community in that platform. Where does their community go now? Some of these folks have hundreds, if not thousand of folks that come to their worlds every single week. Where do they go and hang out now? Every world wasn’t AI slop! Some creators built incredible hangout worlds, chill spots, & worlds built for adults that you probably never saw on the menu because they were marked 18+ or they are buried in the menu. Yes, you are entitled to your opinion, but take it from someone who loves VR and has always been willing to try to see others point of view. There is no metaverse platform that is perfect, but what makes a person prefer one over the other comes down to where they feel value can be gained and given. That was Horizon Worlds for us then and it still is today at long as the community is still there. Once the community is gone, unfortunately we don’t know what our next steps is. We Still Believe In The Metaverse NO MATTER WHAT!
