6/ Take home: Oral β-lactams = viable option for cUTIs—including bacteremia ✔️ If patients are appropriately selected AND dosing is optimized It’s time to rethink the idea that oral β-lactams = “inferior.” ➡️ With the right approach, they can be an effective & safer alternative.

5/ 🦠 Stewardship implications: ✅ FQ-sparing strategy
✅ Expands oral step-down options
✅ Supports more targeted, safer therapy ⚖️ Limitations: 🔸 Mostly observational data
🔸 PK variability across agents
🔸 Optimal dosing strategies still evolving ➡️ More RCTs needed

Happy #ADEAwarenessDay! DYK that fluoroquinolones (FQ) have a 6-fold increase in panic attacks per a recent FAERS analysis (academic.oup.com/jac/article/81…)? Due to the many black box warnings of FQs, they should be avoided when other oral antibiotics can be used to treat an infection.
