💬 Perspective: #GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy provides substantial weight loss but increases risk of muscle mass reduction; exercise, especially resistance training, shows efficacy in preventing weight regain and maintaining muscle mass. ja.ma/4991QrI

#HepatitisB is a DNA virus that can cause acute or chronic liver injury, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma, affecting more than 250 million people worldwide. In this 22-minute JAMA Clinical Reviews podcast, Beverly Forsyth, MD, and Anna Lok, MD, discuss the global epidemiology, regional transmission patterns, clinical presentation, screening strategies, and current management of hepatitis B. 🎧 Listen now: ja.ma/4tgbW1j

Grateful that @JAMA_current invited me to comment on the new meta-analysis on digital media and youth mental health. Screen use deserves the same routine clinical care we give to sleep and diet, with attention to what and how, not only how much. jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…

Chronic HBV infection may progress to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Currently available antiviral therapies—pegylated interferon alfa and nucleos(t)ide analogues—suppress HBV DNA replication and reduce the risk of progression to cirrhosis and HCC. 📌 Learn more in this JAMA Review: ja.ma/4uvWnUh

Hepatitis B virus (#HBV) infection affects an estimated 254 million people worldwide and causes approximately 1.1 million deaths annually. 🧵 HBV is a DNA virus transmitted through percutaneous or mucosal exposure to infected blood, semen, or body fluids. Acute HBV infection may resolve or progress to chronic infection, defined as persistence of #hepatitisB surface antigen (HBsAg) for more than 6 months. 📌 Learn more in this JAMA Review: ja.ma/4uvWnUh

💬 Perspective by Alon Bergman, PhD, @Bob_Wachter, MD, and @ZekeEmanuel, MD, PhD: As US health care faces workforce shortages and rapid advances in clinical #AI, existing FDA device regulation is inadequate for adaptive, general-purpose AI systems that make care determinations without per-case clinician review. The proposed licensure framework for autonomous clinical AI includes standardized competency assessment, supervised practice, ongoing evaluations, clear accountability, and federal-state coordination, aiming to ensure safe use and mitigate regulatory fragmentation. ja.ma/425Nx3o

💬Perspective: Lessons from quality and safety improvement efforts indicate that progress in workforce well-being requires non-discretionary investment, high-accountability organizational aims, focused measurement, and system redesign to reduce administrative burden. Organizational culture is identified as a primary driver of clinician well-being, with psychological safety and wellness-centered leadership closely linked to error reporting, teamwork, and retention. Structured peer learning and protected benchmarking are recommended to accelerate adoption of evidence-based approaches, positioning workforce well-being as a foundational requirement for high-quality care. ja.ma/3Rgj548

Genetic differences may help explain why some patients experience greater weight loss or more adverse effects on #GLP1 receptor agonists such as #semaglutide or #tirzepatide, according to a new genome-wide association study using consumer genetic data. JAMA Medical News Associate Managing Editor Kate Schweitzer and staff writer Samantha Anderer discuss how pharmacogenetics could inform future clinical approaches to GLP-1 prescribing, possible clinical implications, and expert perspectives on the path toward precision #obesity care. 🎧 Listen now: ja.ma/4tIiuXp

Among patients undergoing isolated coronary artery bypass graft surgery, relaxed potassium supplementation (threshold <3.6 mEq/L) was noninferior to tight supplementation (threshold <4.5 mEq/L) in preventing arrhythmias short-term and demonstrated comparable 6-month rates of mortality, atrial tachyarrhythmia, stroke, and quality of life. These findings support flexibility in potassium supplementation protocols after #CABG without affecting medium-term clinical or patient-reported outcomes. ja.ma/4tapZp4
