The gaming industry is mourning the loss of Claude Guillemot, one of the co-founders of Ubisoft, who has sadly passed away following a fatal plane crash in France.
Claude Guillemot was 69 years old.
Multiple reports state that on Friday, June 19, 2026, a twin-engine light aircraft carrying Claude Guillemot crashed into a field near La Baule, a coastal town in western France, while approaching for landing.
The plane caught fire on impact, and despite emergency services arriving quickly, the intense flames left no chance for rescue.
Both people on board were killed in the crash, including Claude Guillemot and the flight instructor accompanying him, as the aircraft was engulfed in intense flames that even spread to nearby vegetation, making the emergency response more difficult. French aviation authorities have now opened a formal investigation to establish the exact cause of the accident.
Claude Guillemot was one of the five Guillemot brothers who founded Ubisoft in 1986, helping grow a small family venture in France into one of the most influential video game publishers in the world.
