It has been great being part of this year’s Africa Canada Human Rights Promotion convention. A lot of take home lessons and can’t wait to see more action from @ACIConvention24 @AfriCentre4Ref

"To make sure that out of those millions of dollars, some of those resources were going towards the issues that they care most about. Oftentimes, in those conversations and those borders of power, there aren't a lot of black people." #ACI24

"To give a really good example, just this past week, Canada's first ever national action plan to combat hate came out millions and millions and millions of dollars before that plan came out, so many different organizations formed coalitions" #ACI24

"I've been here for so many years now that I have background in activism, in health, currently the team leader of an organization, of an organization called intersex Canada, that is another topic to talk about." #ACI24

"There's always that challenge, like, if I reflect on our system, sometimes I don't need to have a family doctor to access health services. I walk in and I And we, to really have an appointment, including pharmacy" #ACI24

"I think the issue around public health and why it should be central to everything we do is one, as someone who is going to say, from Uganda or any other part of Africa, or any other part of the world, and coming to Canada" #ACI24

" It's called one, one of these things is not like the other. And it was specifically looking at the needs and barriers when it comes to HIV, for Black queer and trans people in Ontario" #ACI24

" So there needs to be that kind of push to educate and a lot of times that comes from us. So after that story, seeing how incompetent this person was with such a position, a friend of mine, who's also in the HIV sector, published a novel report in Ontario" #ACI24

"One of the largest HIV AIDS organizations in Ontario. And I, at the time, 10 years ago, asked the director, what programs do you have for black people? What programs do you have for black people? And obviously it was a white gay man, and he had no idea" #ACI24

Thank you to the @AfriCentre4Ref for having me at your conference to discuss the legal and ethical responsibilities of nations, like Canada, towards refugees and asylum seekers. In Ontario, too many refugees fall through the cracks, and it is the responsibility of all levels of government to make sure this doesn’t happen. One of the ways we do this is empowering refugees and asylum seekers to make noise and have space for their voices to be heard. It’s crucial to ensure they have access to essential services and legal support. It was an honour to hear your stories yesterday. #onpoli
