The students argue that the University of Alabama’s decision to suspend the magazines is discriminatory and unlawfully censors student voices, violating their rights under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Today, a group of students at the University of Alabama filed a federal lawsuit challenging the university’s suspension of two student publications, Nineteenth Fifty-Six and Alice. 🧵

House Bill 541 has passed out of committee and is headed to the House Floor. HB541 would force voters to register with a political party just to participate in primary elections—pushing people into boxes that don’t reflect how many Alabamians actually show up at the polls. 🧵
