It is a tremendous honor to receive the Hoogstraal Medal! My achievements would not be possible without the hard work of so many outstanding trainees and colleagues. That is why I dedicated my acceptance speech to them!

This award is named after American entomologist and parasitologist Harry Hoosgtraal, who is recognized as one of the world's best-known authorities on tickborne diseases. This medal honors outstanding lifelong service to medical entomology. Congratulations Dr. Harrington!

The major transmission route of Trypanosoma cruzi is vectorborne. Infection is acquired through contact with the feces of an infected triatomine bug (or kissing bug), a blood-sucking insect that feeds on humans and animals. lnkd.in/gYnj7Cjf

The insect tattoo shown is a triatomine or "kissing bug". They are vectors of Chagas’ disease (American trypanosomiasis). The disease is named after Brazilian physician Carlos Chagas, who first described it in 1909. #ASTMH #MedicalEntomology #40yearsofACME
