Fields 3-6 are closed today. Updating the schedule online for D-1 Regionals

Finally, D-1 Regionals returns to the Smith River Sports Complex in Axton on May 4/5, while Dev mens regionals returns to Glover Park the same weekend

Conference champs held on April 20/21: Colonial D-1 M/W - DE Turf in Frederica Virginia D-1 M/W - Glover Park D-3 Mens and Southern AC Dev M - Smith River Sports Complex in Axton, VA

@NCSUalpha If your biggest complaint is that you had to use a port o pot instead of walking to the real bathrooms by fields 14/15, I’d say we still did a pretty good job! We’re rotating back to Axton in 2024 and even years moving forward, and Fredericksburg in 2025 and odd years

@RohinBalkundi @CoachKlem26 @HydraNFriends As field space and format allow for it, USAU encourages regional directors to expand upon consolation offerings when it’s not explicitly spelled out in the manual. Not always possible for variety of reasons, but at least this weekend at AC Regionals we’ve it handled

i’m just confused why every other region has pool play -> bracket and we just have march madness

@mcfailure @HydraNFriends That was definitely a field space issue. Back then, there was typically only 12 women’s teams at regionals instead of 16, and those 12 team formats were horribly field intensive with two pools of 6. So straight bracket was definitely easier than the pool play option

@ACRegionals @HydraNFriends I played Night Train B back in 2011-2015 and it seemed like every year Men’s regionals was a double elimination bracket (2 bids earned by UNC and UNC-W)

@mcfailure @HydraNFriends I can’t speak to earlier than 2016 when I first began helping to run AC D-1 regionals as a coordinator and now RD. In those four seasons pre Covid, we always leaned towards pool play option if field space allowed

@mcfailure @HydraNFriends 1) As noted in another part of the thread, the new formats guide says the bracket play option is the only choice for 16 teams and 2 bids. 2) The old 16 team, 2 bids pool play option very field intensive. With usually only 12 fields for 32 teams, bracket play was a necessity

@CoachKlem26 @HydraNFriends In regards to fall 2021, that was the first time that USAU’s format committee began in earnest to revamp the formats from many of the outdated formats in the old format manual. Some of the new formats implemented that fall have since been scrapped and updated again

@CoachKlem26 @HydraNFriends docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d… The tournament packet for this weekend links to the formats guide, which outlines that 16 teams and 2 bids uses the straight bracket format, while 15 teams and 2 bids more closely mirrors the format for 16 teams and three bids
