I am beyond thrilled to share that I have accepted a tenure-track position in the @UNM Psychology Department (@UNMPsychDept) starting this fall. Even more exciting is that I will retain a half time appointment at @UNMCASAA! ✨

My first R01!!! If you’re a student/early career person who wants to hear how this was equal parts science and serendipity, hit me up. Otherwise, I’m gonna savor this notice for as long as I possibly can 😊 @rwcarpenterphd @ashleyfcurtis @ChristinaMccrae

I experienced #burnout pretty bad during the pandemic (especially the first few months when I was trying to homeschool and adapt all my work to a remote platform). A study of 17,000 parents in 42 countries around the world discovered that burnout varied drastically by country, based on the differences in Eastern and Western cultural values. apa.org/monitor/2021/1…. Another study confirmed those findings, but the did find one commonality: parents of school-age kids reporting much higher rates of burnout! Working parents who were also the primary caregiver were 4X as likely to suffer as working parents who weren’t simultaneously tending the children This article explains why this pattern is so bad and offers some modest suggestions for improvement.

PhD process was some of the very best years of my life. Incredible mentor, amazing friends and colleagues, collaboration, creativity, and tons of fun. I would do it again starting tomorrow. I feel for those who have a less enjoyable experience but it can be great & worth it.

Loved my PhD — the peers, the professors, even the place ❤️ and my husband reminds me regularly (usually when I’m complaining about something) that I’m luckier than most people because I genuinely love my job… so 100% I’d struggle thru all the hard parts to do it again

Recent grad in need of a job? Kristen Lindgren in Seattle is looking for a lab manager! AWESOME opportunity for folks preparing for PhD programs in social psych; I spent two years working with Kristen before going to grad school. 10/10 recommend! This hasn't been easy, at some point I felt almost unemployable, too senior to work as someone's postdoc, too junior to be competitive for most lectureships. For a while, quitting academia (to do I don't know what) seemed like a very real option. So happy things worked out.

@DrEBrauner I would love to see real change in how we evaluate scholarly impact. Unfortunately, I think the current metrics are here until we can come to a consensus on the change.

Something so humbling and also refreshing 🤔 about being in a primarily clinical department. My tenure award letter came with a note saying, “Didn’t you earn this months ago??” 🤣🤣🤣

I’m not sure how you “reach the top 1%” of our field— or if you need to 🤔 but these will definitely help with promotion & tenure and I strongly recommend doing work you like with people you enjoy!

4 Goals to strive for as a postdoc & reach the top 1% of your field. As a postdoc it's easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day grind of research. To truly excel it's key to set goals beyond the lab. Here are 4 goals to place you in the top 1% 🧵👇 @PostdocVoice @OpenAcademics
