How do you differentiate a Layer1 blockchain from a Layer2 blockchain?
If you can see this just spare few minutes of your time to improve your blockchain knowledge by learning the basic difference between a Layer2 blockchain from a Layer1 blockchain.
First off let’s talk about what a Layer1 blockchain is:
A Layer1 blockchain (L1) is the base network where transactions are recorded and validated directly on-chain.
Examples of these layer1 blockchains are:
• Bitcoin
• Ethereum
• Solana
• Cosmos
• Cardano
• Sui
• Aptos.
They are the core network that process and records all transactions.
Now let’s discuss the layer2 Blockchain(L2):
The layer2 blockchains are networks built directly on L1s to make transactions faster and more efficient.
Instead of putting every single transaction directly on the main chain, L2’s process them separately then send the final results back to the L1, which will in-turn makes L1’s faster.
Examples of L2 blockchains are:
• Arbitrum
• Lightning network (Bitcoin).
• Base
• Optimism
• zkSync
• Polygon zkEVM.
The unique feature of L2’s are its speed and low gas fees.
By now you should be able to tell the basic difference between an L2 and L1 blockchain.
Cheers to that knowledge.🥂✨
