The selection of a third party software library (aka API) is a non-trivial process in an organization. In our recent paper at CHASE 2024, we proposed a model of library selection process with six selection patterns by interviewing industrial developers. With Tanzil and @AE3nn

Join the SE-ALL Lab at the University of Calgary! I am seeking a Master's student for a fully funded research project on software fairness. I strongly encourage students from underrepresented groups in software engineering to apply: drdesouzasantos.ca/se-all

@mchykerda This will cause significant problems for anyone applying for federal grants. Is destroying research programs unintended or a bonus consequence for them?

@StephenPunwasi Okay. That's worse than what I already knew about. 😡 I was only considering legitimate universities.

11/ So they: - spent $50k to go to a diploma mill; - don't speak english, because of testing fraud; - have no money; - often rent mattresses, taking 8/hr shifts w/other students; - if this doesn't work, their parents lose everything A TO funeral home sends 5 dead back per month.

My blood's boiling & you're about to feel the same way. It's 🇨🇦's international students. Not them, but the diabolical, complex, & unimaginal scheme to fuel 🇨🇦's growth. Here's how 🇨🇦 manufactured an exploitation machine & sold it as social good. <thread> 🧵👇

@StephenPunwasi @Matticusssss Since I've been mad for a while, I probably don't want to read. Foreign students exploited for labour & fees. Low class diversity because low stipends exclude lower-income (domestic & foreign) students. Lower research quality as students have to take extra jobs to survive.

@Matticusssss The security issue is a big one, too. There are some places I simply won't cycle to because I'm not sure what will happen to my bike when I'm away.

@jessyroos I got solar with the expectation that my bills would get a lot lower. My usage has been in negative numbers all summer, but then there's the HUGE access fee. Having a flat fee that disregards usage places penalties on the frugal and benefits heavy users.

A good undergraduate student from TUe Computer Science is looking for a good European university for an Erasmus exchange period. In addition to CS the student would like to take courses from sociology and philosophy. She speaks English, French and Italian. Any suggestions?

It's wild how many PhDs are terrible at teaching the subject they are technically experts in to anyone outside of certain learning verticals

@Matticusssss I love seeing bike paths added - but the next question is why new areas don't have them by default. I'm looking at you and judging, University Ave NW.

And this one is ours! @sBr3ukelen @AE3nn @s_baltes and yours truly. Of course this work would not have been possible without the amazing veteran women software developers who agreed to talk to us and share their stories of discrimination, success and survival. Thank you so much!
