WIT Studio CEO Talks about OnePiece Remake : George Wada: “The reason we decided to produce a remake of the One Piece anime came from a reflection by the original author, Eiichiro Oda. He pointed out that the work has become very long and rich in detail. However, since it started a long time ago, the new generation, accustomed to modern productions, does not necessarily feel the same excitement toward the older animation. He felt a certain regret about this and wanted younger audiences to be able to discover and follow the story. Our studio is not simply redrawing the panels; this remake will be dense and impactful, without unnecessary padding. It will combine visual enjoyment, strong storytelling, and impeccable pacing. When it originally aired, the series was scheduled on Sunday mornings at 8 AM, which is considered a time slot for children. At WIT Studio, we are proud to produce impactful works such as Attack on Titan, Spy x Family, and Vinland Saga. These are very distinctive creations. We want to approach One Piece with that same strength and level of quality, while fully respecting Toei and their remarkable work. The biggest challenge in creating a work like One Piece lies in the immense size of its fanbase and in surpassing their expectations. LOTM has the best power system in anime. When I made a post about this, a lot of non lotm readers said complex ≠ better, which I agree with, but that’s not the point. LOTM’s power system is the best not because it’s complex, but because of how well built and well explored it is. For the lotm non readers, I’ll give you a basic idea of how the power system works. There are 22 pathways, each with 9 sequences. Basically, think of the 22 pathways as 22 different classes and the 9 sequences as 9 levels, with Sequence 9 being the weakest level while Sequence 1 being the strongest. You choose your pathway by drinking a potion of that specific pathway. For instance, I’m going to take one of the 22 pathways (only slight spoilers, it doesn’t really matter much), the Marauder pathway, as an example. When you drink the Marauder potion, you become a Sequence 9 Marauder, and this comes with abilities. At this sequence, you gain slight physical enhancement, combat proficiency, and most importantly, you become very good at stealing from others with your nimble fingers because, as the name suggests, it’s about stealing. A marauder literally means a person who steals or raids. You also gain abilities such as sensing valuable items nearby and taking them without being detected. After Sequence 9, you can drink another potion to advance your sequence or “level.” For example, Sequence 8 of the Marauder pathway is called Swindler. As a Swindler, you become faster and more agile, can trick or manipulate people with your words and actions, and can sense others’ intentions while stealing both physical and spiritual items from a distance. This is the basic stuff on how the power system works. There are 21 more pathways, and there’s way more interesting stuff in the potions and all the conditions you need to level up in the pathways, all the way up to Sequence 1. Once you get that far, some pathways can literally do anything, like controlling time, space, or even concealing concepts of reality. So if you’re interested, read LOTM or, if you want, you can watch Season 1. Season 2 is set to release next year with 30+ episodes, and it won’t have the main flaw of Season 1, which was the pacing issue. Special episodes are dropping this year as well. Just keep in mind that the first 3 episodes are confusing and fast for some, but by the end, it will all make sense.
