AFAD Executive Director Christian Gultia reflects on this year's theme, Memory is Resistance, and what it truly means in the lives of families across Asia. To remember is to refuse erasure. To remember is to resist. #IWD2026 #MemoryIsResistance

They reflect, not only on the passion of Jesus Christ on his way to Golgotha, but on the enduring suffering of the families of the disappeared and all those who continue to bear a cross yet to be lifted.

Qurban Ali was forcibly disappeared on 2 January 2026 from his residence in B-17, Islamabad. Since the incident, his family has been desperately seeking answers, yet the police continue to refuse to register an FIR, denying even the most basic legal recourse. This silence and inaction further expose how enforced disappearance remains a tool of oppression, used with impunity while families are left in anguish and uncertainty. Every delay deepens the injustice and normalizes illegality. Defence of Human Rights (DHR) Pakistan demands the immediate release and safe recovery of Qurban Ali and calls upon the authorities to fulfill their legal obligations without further delay. #ReleaseQurbanAli #EndEnforcedDisappearances

As we step into the new year, we carry hope! Hope for answers. Hope for accountability. Hope for reunions long overdue. We remain committed to our mission of truth, justice, and human dignity. Until every forcibly disappeared person is released and every family receives justice, our work will continue. Here’s to a new year of strength, solidarity, and unwavering resolve. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!
